I agree that the concept and challenge title were off from each other and it resulted in a lot of DNMC's. I have been voiting according to the quality of the image and just making an appropriate comment if I think it did not fit the Wabi-Sabi description.

To be fair, this is actually an issue with Japanese to some extent. One of my job responsibilities is correcting the English grammar used in user and technical manuals for my company's products. I have acquired a new appreciation for the difficulties of it. Translating from any western language is nearly a 1 for 1 word translation. If you run them through translation software you will usually get something intelligible. Japanese on the other hand, is a language of concepts. In order to translate something, you must understand the concept being conveyed, and then rephrase it in the other language. My manager is Japanese, speaking both languages and sometimes he has difficulty telling me what some Japanese text is saying.

My point is that Wabi-Sabi can indeed translate to "Beauty in the everyday", though the meaning is deeper than that. Perhaps calling it "the beauty of the imperfect" would have been more accurate?

I guess getting close to 6.0 isn't going to make it this late in the game. Good comments though.

Neither do the ones you give yourself from ghost accounts. ;)

All I need now is 4 7s and 2 6s to tie ya!

Is there anyone out there besides Deb Melethia with a score over 6.4, or are all the high scores hiding themselves?

Eeeeking up with 6.39 - hope this trend will continue!

I'm quite sure there are scores over 6.4 - I just don't know who has them. I gave out a lot of good marks in this one.

Me too, I gave some 10's to some very deserving photos. I'm happy 'cuz someone just boosted me up to 6.42. Long may it last, LOL.

I agree. The term Nostalgia also comes to mind. But, that is a point of view also. Take an old rusty hammer. It certainly isn't perfect.

My concept was from the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, as I believe it from the time I spent it Japan. I am most looking forward to discussions on this post challenge.

I really believe that it all comes down to what voters see as Beauty in the every day, some may see beauty in a door handle, where others may disagree, some may like the sky, yet others not.

Continuing my slide downward....

I'm now within .2 of my all-time lowest score...and lower than any score within the last 20 months. I have a legitimate shot at that most difficult "accomplishment" - a Brown Ribbon earned while trying to post a "good" photo (as opposed to knowingly putting junk up to get it).

BTW, I've had some fun talking about my low score in this thread, so let me say...I don't really think my photo is all that great and I predicted a "horrible" score in my comments when I posted it. I focused on the idea of beauty in the "imperfect" after reading about Wabi-Sabi and went looking for something imperfect and tried to improve upon it...not very well apparently. So I don't really have any gripes. It was just an experiment in something that I expected would fall far short. ...and it has. ;-)

The students pop their heads in my class asking if they can hit the update button - I need an intervention!
