Hi!
Is there any European DPCers' meeting in programm for the next future?
Obviously Italy should be great for me, at least ;)
But I'm not so lazy and Europe is not so large...
Thanks in advance

Where in Italy?

I'll probably be going back in January for a week or so. I'll be near Torino.

I would love a European GTG, located in Amsterdam but willing and able to drive basically anywhere in Europe. I was personally thinking about heading to Romania/Czech Republic/Croatia/Hungary for a phototrip but if there's a GTG I'll cancel that.

ANY DPCer can initiate a GTG anywhere they fancy - it's just a case of creating a thread asking if anyone is interested in attending a GTG in XYZ location. If there is interest, you can either go ahead and just set a date or, what I usually do is to put forward two or three dates, ask everyone to post which ones they can and set a deadline date and go with whichever is most popular. Then you can go on to discuss where to meet and what to do during the day!

If you fancy a GTG, be proactive and have a go at organising one yourself!

I promise it's not that hard. I organised the first several London GTGs here on DPC before handing reins to someone else and it was great fun. I currently organise similar ones for another photo website.

I would do one in Amsterdam, but at this moment and the next couple of months I do not have time for it.

Sure no problem. :)

Excellent! Seriously, I'm not entirely sure I can make the Canadian GTG this summer, and I'd love to have another one somewhere in Europe. Amsterdam sounds like a wonderful place to have one.

If it's Amsterdam I could help you out Azrifel, maybe with driving/hosting/whatever? Dont really know what would be needed, just let me know :)

The Carnival in Venice would be a great opportunity (Jan. 25 to Feb. 05 - 2008)...

I'll be there from Jan. 30 to Feb. 06 and would love to meet fellow DPC'ers :)

wow! it's great as some arguments can start the fire! :D
I'd like to partecipate to a european meeting but organise it...

Spring would be better season I think, April or May.
Being italian I said Italy but Amsterdam would sound good too.

Carnival would be nice but it should be organised before and the crowd is an hell. Not talking about prices!
And even the subject could be too specific.

amsterdam sounds good :) I fancy a weekend in Amsterdam with my newly/old husband/boyfriend (yep, just got married :p) ....but let me know in advance the dates...since we need some time organization, in order to make it.
I am also spending some time in Geneva, Switzerland (during some weekends), so if anyone around...
...and of course, there is Belgium, Bruxelles and environments that are great too ;)

Wow! Congratulations. :))) I did a Nikah (Islamitic) on Jan 3th. The real marriage date is impossible to tell at this moment.

GTG: At this moment I don't know yet. First I have to plan a trip to Moscow in March or end of February. Next a trip to Rome in April. Maybe somewhere in May or June. In Moscow I am not available for GTG's. :)

Workshops will be difficult for me. I have nothing to teach anyone. :))) So we need volunteers for that. People who actually have something to teach. For now if something will be done in Amsterdam it is a simple meeting where we walk around with or without a guide, maybe visit some spots, eat, drink a beer, have a good time during one or two days.

Thanks! Congrats to you too! ;-)
You see, that's why we decided to do it fast (decision made in begining of december, wedding on 5th of january ...parents arriving with lastminute tickets ... it was fun), but then again, we only did the civil mariage, we're not much into fancy church weddings (not for our own wedding, anyway :).
Good luck with all the organization!

ps: What is Nikah? (I thought she's orthodox ... coming from Russia)

As far as the meeting in Amsterdam, may-june sounds great, the weather will be (hopefuly) better. A GTG will do just fine, it's fun to spend some time together ... take funny pics ...and just enjoy! ... and maybe some locals can give us a tour of the coffee shops :-O

Nikah is a contract that is part of an Islamic marriage. It is described at Wikipedia and here at Soundvision.

In Bashkortostan many people are muslim and so are here parents and most of her family. Everyone lives in peace with each other. In my fiancee's family there is a mix of mild muslim, dedicated muslim and orthodox Christian. Her parent's are strong believers and said that they would very much appreciate it if we did this. Altough it took me a bit by surprise, they only told me that a mullah would come to kind of bless our relation. :) No problem. Basically I am muslim now too. There was a small dinner at her parents and the mullah came to do the ceremony (writing a contract, doing prayers and eat with us). If I get it right Allah considers us married now. The whole family was very happy (and I met most of them because of two birthdays that we celebrated).

The civil marriage will be in Holland (80% sure), but it has to be planned very well because they are very picky here about the right papers, stamps, translations, approvals from all kind of organisations etc. And a lot of work to get visas for the family. I will explain more at the GTG. :)

what about asking lowonenergy for a workshop? I love his photos, and he's Dutch too. I'm sure he can show us lots of interesting things! or laurent's (TOY) photos are great too, perhaps he'd like to come too?
