Any predictions for what the cliche will be this week? I have a guess, and think my photograph will probably be in that category.

You''re just a trouble maker aren''t you..I knew there was something I liked about you ;-)

Roadkill, unusual things laying on the road and some obscure references to Willie Nelson..:-)
(Now if I could just get Willie Neslon to lay on the road and let me run over him!!)

What about obscure references to Jack Kerouac? That's what I was going to do my submission on. Or not. :)

not trying to say any of these are cliches, but here are some potential subjects for this challenge:

steamrollers. cars. roadkill. RV's. road stripes (would have to be portrayed VERY interestingly to get a good vote from me). toiletry travel bag. motel signs. buses. diners. hippie women. jack kerouac (his grave? his skeleton? a copy of his book?). suitcases. feet. semi trucks. bands (musical). carnivals. cops on the highway. road signs. mattresses in the middle of the highway.

that's all for now...

Road stripes and steamrollers. Hmmmm..... Does that mean you will give a 10 if we take one of road stripes with a steamroller heading toward the camera? Or do we need to throw in the roadkill to get the 10?

I wish everyone would stop doing this 'cliche shot of the week' threads for the upcoming challenges... I think it is intimidating to newbie and novice photographers...

I think it's intimidating to everyone. I keep thinking "I hope they don't mention my idea, I hope they don't say..." :-)

Worse yet, "Man, that's what I was going to do. Now, I have to find something else."

folks. im not offering out any of these as a 'cliche'. this is just a brain storm of ideas for on the road. it's not like anyone couldnt have sat down and generated this list.

and certainly just because someone online simply mentions/types the word 'hippie chicks' that doesnt negate all the awesomeness of your 'woodstock recreation photo' : ). doh!

I'm still just trying to picture what my wildly running imagination will look like and how I get a photo of it . . . sigh!

I have a great shot that nobody else would even think of. Can I take a digital photo of one of my photographs and turn that in?

No. That is outlined in the rules as well:

"Moreover, the artwork must not constitute the entirety of the subject of your photograph. "

Let's play a new game. Things that fit the challenge that will be highly dissed because so many here lack the imagination to make the link. In this case how about:

Train/Rail pictures.

I would rate a STEAMROLLER photo VERY high. There can't be more than a few dozen around anymore and all are locked up in museums I am sure. They would be harder to find and shoot than a STEAM locomotive. Harder still would be a STEAM shovel. There are on lakes and rivers around here a good many STEAM boats (mostly paddlewheelers). We just don't use a lot of STEAM engines anymore.

Oh my Gosh. Made to look away from cliche and toward creativity. Those beasts here---THE CADS!

i think for this challenge, were i not suspended, i would have submitted one of the following:

roadkill. this is painfully cliche, but could be interesting if there were flies and it was a long exposure shot.

a car accident. these are hard to come by, unless you have a female friend who will run naked in the street for twenty bucks. she wouldn't be in the picture.

a really old classic car with someone no younger than 70 years of age putt-putting along at 15 mph. with a corn cob pipe in hand. hell yes.

who knows what kind of boring crap people will try and dress up for this one.

In another thread, it was just suggested that a 12 yr. old seek anger management. In your case, I am wondering about therapy. I'm not trying to cause trouble, but, really? what's up with the attitude?

why should i not voice my mind if i feel a dare to think critically about the current challenge is in order ?

attitude, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Me three, but the funny thing is those "cliche" shots dont seem to appear.......On second thought let the ideas flow, I dont have a clue what to shoot this week!
06/05/2002 10:40:17 PM · #21
I agree as well .. let people share the ideas .. then just make sure you dont include your photo in those categories ... with the ordinary or common shots out in the open ... you'll then have something to work with and to try and be more unique in your composition. :o)
06/06/2002 08:19:48 AM · #22
does anyone really think that typing the words 'car accident' on here will suddenly somehow make your photograph any less compelling or lame then it already was going to be? :)
06/06/2002 08:40:09 AM · #23
No, I personally don't see anything wrong with it. It's fun to bounce around ideas. I thought that was all we were doing.
