So, there I was, standing outside the Groucho Club (super exclusive, oh yeah baby!) in London's West End with Alex Saberi (we were being paid to be there, but thats another story) and all of a sudden, this single photographer comes running down the street with taking photos of a lone female, not even knowing who he was shooting, I dived in front of him and in the best pap` style, started running down the street backwards taking pictures of the `celeb`. Anyway, realised halfway through the papping that it was Lily Allen (British singer/songwriter) the photos look great, so just sent them to a picture desk to see if they can earn me some $$$$$

So my first proper papping, I could get used to it! Gotta get a faster camera though.

(cant post pics yet as the newsdesk I sent them to requires a 12 month license, but if they don't want them then I will post them here.. although could post some of those I didn't send to the desk).

NICE! I dig her and she has a rockin' band! I hope you score some cash!

Great! Must be a competitive field. Can't wait to see what you are able to share. Good luck with the $$$. By the way, you and Mr. Saberi, tag-team photogs for hire? Cool! :-)

heh, actually Saberi and I were there as hired paps for a private party, basically people pay us to act all pap like, hassle them when getting out of their limos, lots of shouting "Tracy!! Over here tracey!!" etc. In these times when everyone wants to feel like a celebrity, its actually works out very well, and the $$$ is pretty good as well.. we also cover the evening in a more traditional reportage style as well, but the pap thing is getting incredibly popular. So if I get some cash from the shots, then I had a VERY good evening financially speaking.. and it was great fun as well.

Not to mention the visual of Simms pap'ing someone on the street while running backwards...

Good thing your just taking pictures, lol.

Hope the $$$ works out for you. :)

thanks for that - lucky I hadn't just taken a drink or something, or I'd be in the market for a new keyboard. :)

I can see where your minds went, but my first thought was "do you need a vaccination after papping a celeb?" ;)

OK, so just what does it mean? The language barrier is in full effect here.

In the south it means breast, or did while I was living in Alabama. However when women undergo their regular exams at the doctor's, they receive a pap test. A pap test is administered to see if any cancer cells are growing on the cervix.

Lilly Allen is cool. Didn't she do a persiflage (right word??) of Amy Winehouse once?

*starts looking for the photo*

Say what? "Persiflage" is banter, light teasing. Did you mean "impersonation"?

best way to jip an english guy nowadays.

"I'll pay you $500 for that £500 job!"

"Whoa, really?"

Nice job, Simms. If you can make money from it too that'd be pretty sweet just for being in the right place, right time.

was the first photog alright with you though? You do hear odd stories about the paparazzi rivalry like removing memory cards from cameras, gluing on lens caps, poking them in the ribs when they're taking a picture and all kinds of jazz.

He did come up to me and say "are you sending that one in?", so obviously my dishevelled appearance made me look like one of the paparazzi fraternity, so I replied, "oh yeah, that a 200 quider", he didnt look too impressed.. still, ppl who know me know I dont get intimidated by much so some hardened vet pap is nothing to me, even saberi admitted I was a ballsy f*cker :)

Simms, I've often wandered where to send images in SHOULD one happen to snap something newsworthy in a situation where there were no other photographers present.

Could you explain where you sent it/ how?

THANKS

PS Pap test = smear test in UK.
