And what's sad about all this, it appears that is more the cable companies being the greedy ones, not the NFL Network. The cable companies want to run NFL Network like a pay-per-view and the NFL Network wants to be part of basic cable.

I want my NFL Network

So glad to have DirectTV!

I was just reading this article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about this issue. According to the article some parts of Western PA will not be able to see an upcoming Steelers game, which in this area could cause rioting on the streets...

I read an article that claimed the opposite. One of the major networks oferred $400M for the slate of Thursday night and Saturday games in the '06 season. Jerry Jones, who headed the committee that turned down that offer, claimed that they could make more than that if they put the games on the NFL Network instead. That turns out to have been wrong. They only made about $235M on them. Jerry Jones must now save face, since he is never, ever wrong, and increase the amount of money those games are making by overcharging cable operators for the channel.

Either way, the fans are the ones who are losing.

From my limited reading I'll say something I've never even thought of saying in my life:

"I agree with the cable companies". Now I feel dirty.

It seems NFL is not happy with the billions it gets from TV contracts, now they are strong-arming cable companies (whom I hate more than words can say) into putting their new little NFLN on basic cable when NFLN offers a measly eight games of new content a year. C'mon!

If I still watched football I would call the NFL and tell them to shove their product up their collective hoo-hoos -or- stop messing with something that already works: games everyone can see.

People around these parts called our US Rep about the Packers-Cowboys game and not being able to see it. Whatever was done made it possible for people to see it here w/o needing a dish.

Since ridding my life of the evil Glowing Box I have thanked the Giant Spaghetti Monster daily. Turn off. Tune in. Be happy.

it sucks that it was not on, what happened to Thursday night football, a couple of years ago espn used to show the games sometimes. I also hate that such a big or good game like that they would put it on. Another thing I dont like is that the NFL will leave a good exciting game and go to another boring ass game. That has happened a few times on CBS this past season.

fyi -- if the Pats go undefeated this year you probably won't see the final game: It's on a Saturday. On the NFL Network.

Use a smaller cable company. They all carry the network.
Or go to sports bar. Just buy a beer or two and join the crowd, It's fun!

If cable and NFL really wanted to solve the issue, they should just make NFL network in HD so it can be offered on the HD tier, which over the next few years will jump in popularity bigtime.

I think you misunderstand, the cable companies are actually protecting their customers. The channel is so costly (NFL greed, not cable co greed)that by adding it to the basic level of service, it would likely raise cable rates by 1-2$ just for one channel. This one channel only carries 8 games, and has crap the other 3/4 of the year. What a rip off.

By the cable companies banding together, they are forcing the NFL network to offer this poor excuse of a Channel at a more affordable cost, so they can avoid making customers pay more for less.

Wow. I guess Canada IS better! TSN carries all the NFL Network games for us.

BTW, the only thing worth watching (NOTHING worth listening to) was T.O. blowing a wide open pass in the end zone and the pass getting picked. That was priceless! Where's your popcorn now T.O.?

71 receptions, 1249 yds, 14tds, 17.6 yards per catch.

We're not fit to even make the popcorn for TO...

He's having one of the best seasons EVER by a reciever and is the key component to one of the most potent offenses seen in recent memory.

so much hatin' ;)

Same issue with the Big Ten network.
Every seems to think they can produce the TV version of their product as good as the networks and make more money to boot.
What I've seen, is a sub-par product and limited penetration which combined just pisses people off.
Screw the NFL network and the Big Ten Network.
What's the problem with offering it on the sports tier or lowering the per subscriber charge?
ESPN charges waaaay less that either of these networks are asking for.

No argument from me there. But did you SEE that drop? It was hilarious and even more so because it was T.O.!

And if I made T.O. popcorn, he wouldn't waste so much of it!

:D

Do you mean they should offer it only in HD? I get the NFL channel in HD on cable (Comcast)

I don't follow football at all. But I do have a Sirius satellite radio and the game will be broadcast on Sirius (forget which channel). Find someone with a Sirius and you can listen to it.

I am so cynical about cable companies that I think the above sentence qualifies as an oxymoron.

I have the NFL Network without a dish.

I have AT&T.

Cable.

Great game.

Two, umm... words: Hoo-ters.

They usually have the games on, and of course we go for the great food. :-)

I just dumped cable two months ago and am now the happy subscriber to Dish Network. I love my Dish DVR!

I have to say though, Bryant Gumble and Chris Collinsworth need some professional help in their game calling. They talked over several penalties, so we had the pleasure of seeing some yards walked off without hearing the ref's explanation. I also lost count of the number of times Gumble said "Cowboys" when he meant "Packers." Ugh. I'll take Madden anyday, or even Kornheiser, compared to Gumble.

I couldn't agree with you more.. We had company over last night since we're the only ones with the dish, and we were all shocked at how many plays we missed cause the network was busy video taping the sideline, and how many calls were screwed up because the announcers didn't have a clue..
