Since you all seem to know everything...

Hey all!

I'm looking to get a new alarm clock, and can't seem to find one that has all the features I want. I used to have a SmartSet clock made by Emerson Research, but ever since the Daylight Saving Time date change, it now sets itself forward/back on the wrong dates. There is no way to turn off the auto-set for DST feature. Even though the clock was manufactured and sold after the DST change was passed into law, Emerson Research refuses to stand behind their product in any way, so I will no longer do business with them.

Earlier this year, I replaced the clock with one from Oregon Scientific that sets itself by the US atomic clock. While I like this clock very much and would highly recommend it, I find I do miss one feature I had on the Emerson, which is the "5-2-7" alarm -- that is, the ability to set an alarm to sound on weekdays, weekends, or both.

Does anyone know where I can find an alarm clock with all of the following features?

- Sets by atomic clock (NOT factory preset with a lithium battery backup like the Emerson, but picks up the time from the US atomic clock radio broadcast).
- Alarm that can be set to sound on weekdays only
- Projection OR LED display -- doesn't matter which
- Indoor/outdoor temperature or weather station would be nice but not necessary
- Radio would be nice but not necessary

Can anyone recommend a specific product that has all or most of these features? When I say most, the first three are critical.

I've always used my cell phone, the one I currently have has the "5-2-7" feature. It picks up the time from verizon, not the atomic clock(close enough for me). And of course its highly portable.

Alarm Kitties aren't that reliable. Mine waits until I actually start moving which is usually about 20-30 minutes after the radio comes on.

I'm allergic, plus they don't adjust to daylight saving time, and can't be set not to wake you on weekends. :-รพ

Problem with that is I frequently put my phone on vibrate or silent.

Mine doesn't. It's based on Windows Mobile 5.

No good. Manufacturing is inconsistent on these, as evidenced by the fact that the 5-7-2 feature does not work properly in some cases, what with the wife waking the husband up on the weekend to take care of chores and such.

Also, in the event I do get one of those, there's no warranty and the restocking fees are very steep.

Have a look at "Oregon Scientific". I have a cheap projection one thats set by the atomic clock and its great, its been thrown across the room many a time as I hate getting up and it really robust. They do weather stations as well

As per my original post, my current clock is an Oregon Scientific, and I'd be happy to go with another one from them, but I can't find a clock made by them that supports a weekday-only alarm. Do you know of one?

Buy a rooster.

If it doesn't help you wake up, at least you have a Saturday night dinner available.

This clock doesn't set itself, but I set it when I got it and it has drifted less than 30 seconds over several months time. It does give you the ability to set a different alarm time for every day of the week, or turn certain days on/off. I'm really happy with this one.

On the fun side, ThinkGeek.com has a few quirky alarm clocks for sale. My brother has the Flying Alarm Clock but I think he has stopped using it since the morning it broke a key off of his laptop's keyboard.

Edit: He now wants the Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker

Are there alarm clocks that do not have annoying or jarring sounds that jolt a person awake?

I would make sure that you can plug your Ipod or Zune into it. That is just me though.

I'm no help in your clock search but the feature on my alarm clock I love is that it doesn't just start blaring at full volume. It works itself up to a loud setting from a low one. It doesn't scare the beejeebus out of us in the morning.

In this part of the world, we don't have to worry about DST. :)
