It looks great if it's a picture about the boy up front and all of the "supporting cast" behind him!

LOL.

Well it looks to me like a random shot of a crowd of people. There is no bond, no connection between the family members.

Well it's really not great even for that.

The question here is... how much did they pay?

more money = better shot :P

they went to a commercial studio. Supposedly 25 bucks per person or something like that. I dunno. I told her she should have found a photographer and done outdoor pics and not gone to a MALL to get pics done..

Boy that sucks.

Truly horrible work, absolutely pathetic control of lighting front-to-back.

If I were your friend, I would demand my money back. If I were the photog, I would have offered the money back.

Looks like the studio was too small for the number of people so it was shot wide angle... leading to the great exaggeration of depth.

It's kind of awesome, in a sort of a way; looks like a promo shot for a tv show (starring the kid in front). The man in the back on the right is obviously going to be written out in the second season.

Does not looks like a family portrait, however. I'd demand money back.

I think the studio is too small of a room for that many people - so they tried to make it work.

My guess is it's not really a photographer at all, but a college kid that has been trained to put someone on the mark, point them at the camera, and click.

I feel as bad for the untrained $12/hr guy trying to make it work as I do for the family that got the shot. It's tough when everyone loses.

Truly does suck.

I got a gig this week because of some other suck ass photog who couldn't get the job done. A friend of mine at work begged me to help save her wedding photos that some "pro" did. She paid a lot and I was amazed at how terrible they really were. First the photog only gave her 270 files from teh entire day.

Basic problems:
-extreme lack of sharpness
-poor compositions
-WB issues
-Sensor dust

That family portrait really does leave something to be desired.

I recieved some school photos of my daughter recently and was appalled at the quality. Cropping was poor and the color was washed out. I can scan and fix those things myself. I did not pay a lot either. I know stuff like I got is assembly line work.\

Same view when I open a can of sardine :(

It looks like everyone is standing. A couple of stools and different sizes of boxes could have really helped that situation.

Bad lighting, out of focus, awful composition....
UUGGHH!!! It gives me the shivers to think that someone could charge for such a photograph....

Did she pay the guy before or after?

Are they happy with the pic? I'd be shocked if they were.

I'm sorry but it looks like Karaoke Photography.

The photographer is not a Professional and it appears he did not stay at a holiday inn express the night before.

The real question: Is your friend happy with their family portrait?
11/15/2007 03:45:19 PM · #20
My question is, since the original photographer surely wasnt consulted, do you have approval of the photographer to reproduce this image to be used on the web or any other use?

And yeah its a bad photo.

Be careful with editing the school photos - could be construed as a copyright violation. I was not at all happy with my daughter's school photos one year, so I set up and did a re-shoot at home. She liked the ones I shot much better and handed those out to her friends.

BOY!! I am really doing something wrong! Even I can take a (truly bad)shot like that and this guy earns his money with it??

*quitting the day job*

that sux. yes, it is not a very good picture. Hope they didnt drop too many beans on that one.

I didnt realise folks still did stuff like this given the digital revolution.

My goodness. This is really bad. Hopefully they will at least reshoot and work out something better for the family.

Just look at their expressions......they know that it will look bad. Was the photographer (or blind person) on drugs?
