I don't quite understand the meaning of this week's contest... a friend of mine is having the same problems. Is this something that's supposed to be interpreted by each individual contributor? Or am I missing something?

I think its a great topic for allowing the photographer to create an interpretation. i would believe that 'travel' or 'transportation' of some sort would be a possibility...

it *is* pretty ambiguous. i think that might be to it's advantage, leaving it pretty wide open. you can do anything from a camper, to a flattened squirrel, to willie nelson ...

Oh, I just can't wait to be comparing shots of road kill next week! ;)

Maybe if the challenge was In The Road we could use some Beatles theme...how about John Steinbeck, Woody Guthrie, Tom Paxton, Utah Phillips, or Jack Kerouac?

On a separate note: I received an alert that there will be a partial solar eclipse near sunset on June 10,visible from across much of North America. For more details on this photo-op visit NASA at Weird Sunset.

There's also a link to techniques and hints for photographing eclipses at Eclipse Photography.

Make sure you set the timer on your camera so you can get a shot of the vehicle running you over.

Hey magnetic, I resemble that remark. I can't take a roadkill picture cause I could never top that classic photo of the possum with the road stripe painted down the middle of his body. Besides, I live in town now and there isn't much roadkill around here. : ' )

I saw a great one in Slydell, Louisiana once. There was an old beat up car driving down the interstate with it's back window out and there was about ten feet of 2 by 4 wood portruding out of the hole. I tried to get a photo of it, but the car was going too fast and my husband wouldn't risk a ticket for the photo.

hey, here's an idea: take a picture of a flattened skunk in the middle of the road, with the skunk's own white stripe being the continuation of the stripe in the road.

the capper?

MAKE IT BLACK AND WHITE!!!!

Sounds like a real classic. Keep on giving me good ideas like that and I might send you a copy of my friend's roadkill photo that he got an A on in his photography class.

I used to shoot concerts for an outdoor venue in northern Michigan. Willie Nelson was the first concert I ever shot there. I'll see If I can get a print made and scan it for "y'all".

Well. It's thursday, and only 27 people have submitted for the On the Road challenge. I can see that I am not the only one still trying to step up to the plate on this one.
Is everyone just really busy this week, consumed by the bizzare forum discussions, or just out of ideas?
06/06/2002 10:29:16 PM · #19
i can't speak for anyone else, but i dont think i have ever submitted before sunday night ;)

I've come up with a few ideas but they seem so... (eeeek!) cliche... that I hate to submit one. I haven't come up with anything I really like yet.

Who's Willie Nelson?

It does not seem like there are many entries, are people afraid of the challenge, or is this typical?

Then go shoot some more! It's not like you're wasting film...

BTW, are you a contact juggler?

I started shooting some "backup" shots yesterday, none of which excite me. I have an idea I was going to do at lunch today but the weather doesn't look too cooperative at the moment. We'll see whether I get my act together.
