I would love to have a mentor. Since I started participating on this site a couple of months ago I have been consistently mediocre.

Since I'm apparently chopped liver, I'll offer my services freelance to anyone who wants help with the basic basics. I can't offer ribbon-winning advice. Jedusi, the two I have were complete and utter freak accidents (but I am not giving them back!)

You are more than qualified. as mentioned this isnt to win ribbons, its to help improve low scores..

I cant believe how this has taken off!! Its just a shame that the mentees outnumber the mentors at the moment. Not sure how we are going to start to pair people up. Someone mentioned earlier it may be best if mentees contacts the mentors.

any suggestions how it can be done fairly?

I'm nothing if not inconsistent. But I do have fun.

Not sure on the picking and pairing - that's a sticky wicket. Maybe have mentorees state specific goals - break 5.5, etc, and take it from there. Quite a few on the list now as "mentorees" have a very good grasp on more than just the basics. Some are looking for that push for a ribbon, and some simply have styles not in tune with DPC voting styles, yet are very accomplished.

it might be better to allow the jedi masters to contact the mentees as then it's not so much as forcing our selfs on the very good people that are willing to help us and they can pick which people might gain more from there particular skills?

as there are more mentees then mentors, i would defiantly benefit the chance to bounce ideas off and work with somebody at the same level to pool ideas, in much the same way as in the WPL or what ever it is called now, if anybody is interested?

I would also like to say i would like to give a gift membership to the person who helped me, to either themselves or for them to nominate somebody else.

edited to remove the suspense that was killing Jedusi

this is such a wonderful idea! PLease add me to the apprentice list. I will gladly take advice from anyone. Don't let my scores fool you. I struggle with a lot of issues(lighting, comp and pp). So any asskissing that I need to do to become a young apprentice with the likes of you... I will surely pucker up.

sorry about that :)

i'm a bit scatty when posting

I also would like to go on the apprentice list. How would it work will I be paired with someone who will contact me, or do I get a list to pick from and then contact them? If we get to pick I noticed that melethia said that she would like to offer her help and I would and could take all the help I can get. If not from Deb from anyone of the mentors that have signed up to help

I feel like I'm pretty good but just not WOW good yet. If someone thinks they could coach me to WOW good, you would get to be my hero forever. :)

Like some of your shots dont already have the wow factor... liar!! :-)

lol, then why can't I manage to ribbon?! I get great feedback on my shots but for some reason I can't produce a winner. Can't we just have one challenge titled "everyone submit worse shots than Wendy"? Come on, I know you want to!

I'll take on Barbara and Rosemary ( BAMartin and cosprenks) as long as it doesn't deprive them from better mentoring should it be offered later. :-)

I like the idea of the DPL-type situations but that would be asking a lot of the site admins. What I would suggest to all the mentorees is if you are not already on a DPL team, consider joining one (or forming one) when it comes around again on the guitar. It's VERY helpful to have five or six other people tell you you're nuts to consider entering THAT picture and make you go out and shoot again. And again. And again. Seriously, having the threads in which to discuss shots and editing and such helped even yours truly. (Though I do offer thanks for the patience of my teammates who I know secretly cringe from time to time...)

In the mean time, you can work through PMs and comments on individual shots, and if helping with challenge entries (upon which you will not vote, of course) you can use the workshop folder and provide image IDs.

Anyone who wants to jump on my mentrain is welcome.. 2 only please.

first come first served. PM me is best I think.

Im on a bad run at the moment be warned, I submit what I personally like but will try to think a bit more DPC friendly for my mentorees.

God help you.

How about this, we post the "type" of mentor we need. I was always the kid who on the yearly art museum trip picked out the strangest thing and feel in love with it. My photography is kind of like that. See my latest still life entry for an idea of what I mean. I actually planned that picture. I moved all kinds of furniture to get that placement. And, I loved it! Of course it flopped because I'm on a different wave length from most other people (though there were a couple people who I think got it, like Yanko). I need a mentor who can help me find the DPC friendly type things. Who can steer me away from the weird and set me on the path to commercial. I also need someone kind of mean, not to make me cry mean, just someone who will say "what are you, blind or something?" LOL!
