I contacted just about all of them looking to set up the Concept creation group that was supposed to go along with the photoshop101 groups.

What you seek in those is not their mentorship, but their mind. Well, maybe both ;)

I know, I was initially in the first round of photoshop 101 mentors, but it was too big a thing for me, a one on one thing is far more managable and its possible to see results of ones mentorship.

Also, by replying to this thread, this means you are now a mentor. :-)

If David is up for mentoring I would love to be his apprentice.

I'd love to be an apprentice (and I'd love to be paired with timfythetoo if he will have me.)

no way, you're on the A list matey :) you have talent.

seriously though, I really think the people who would benefit most from this are those who rarely, if ever break the 6.x barrier, no matter how hard they try. Now I am not saying that the mentor has to completely handhold the student thru the whole process, but comments, suggest idea, compositions etc. If you are mosr than say 40% of the time hitting 6s, then leave a gap open for someone who really is trying but just cant push their score up.

Hey, this sounds really cool... I would love to have a little help as I fell like I am often inconsistent. I really would like someone to mentor me to the next level (whatever that means).

Sounds good to me. Like I said - these next couple of weeks are really hectic for me but I will help where I can. If you have YahooIM (which is a great way to post and share images) my username is the same as here.

I would really like to be on the apprentice list. I have no one to ask questions to or help me understand what I'm doing. I think I could really improve with some one on one help.

I need to learn to take portraits. I'd love to be an apprentice to someone really good at portraits. Conversely, I might be able to mentor someone looking to take macro or animal photos. Of course, there are people a lot better than I at those, too.

As someone who has still not broken the 6 barrier, I'd welcome any help I can get.... I don't enter that many challenges largely due to a fairly hectic work schedule, but would welcome some extra guidance if the offer's still open...

Besides that I can't spare too much time, I already have an "apprentice" ( bubeltrubel :)

I need a mentor... please, please, please, oh please?

This is a great idea! I hope that there are some more high-scoring and altruistic photographers around, so that I can join as a padawan.

Maybe as a first cut you could say that would be Padwans/apprentices cannot have yet scored a 6.

This would push the focus down to people who would make the biggest gains - and to be honest with many genuine beginners you don't actually need people like Joey Lawrence, Larus, or any of the other good folk on the list to remind people to straighten horizons, sort the crop check the colours etc.

That could be done by half the people on this thread who are asking for mentoring themselves :- )

Perhaps mentoring for people that regularly score above 6 could be done another time.

Yup, thats the general idea.. dont think I am even putting myself up there with the Larus' and the Saberis, you nailed it by saying it will be more to check colour/noise/composition and offer advice how to improve overall, I just think one-on-one would be more benefical that a thread offering the same thing.. So yes, those who regularly score over 6 would be great as mentors, those who regularly score UNDER 6 would benefit the most as padawans.

I had one 6, but it was an accident :)

Damn, foiled again. If it weren't for those dern kids.

I'd suggest letting mentee's choose though, if you like one style and get a different mentor, it might not work out well.

heh, maybe you don't want me as a mentor then ;)

I do have an uncanny ability to vote about 6 of the top ten in my highest scores of a challenge, and most times I'm a better critiquer than a photographer, IMO.

I am happy to act as a mentor and provide some recommendations and comments to someone who desires to improve their scores a bit. Clearly, I am not in the class of several of the other mentors and potential mentors being discussed, and I don't consider myself to be an outstanding photog, but I do like to comment on photos here at DPC.

Throw my name in the hat.

Based on the criteria posted below, I probably will not qualify as an apprentice as I have a fair number of entries over 6.

I would be interested in being an apprentice.
10/15/2007 12:28:36 PM · #49
Catherine, you're too good to be an apprentice in most instances - and you learn very well and very quickly on your own. I would actually appoint you to be a mentor. You know the DPC tastes well, and how to achieve them. In fact, I'd take you as a mentor in a heartbeat.

Very nice idea, Simms. I can't score above 6 consistently (and surprise myself when I do) and tend to shoot very non-DPC friendly stuff, but I'd be willing to help a beginner with limited Photoshop skills learn the basics, then hand them off to someone with more ability than me.

this is great!

could i please be a padawan, i'm sure there is a jedi master out there who can give me that boost, i've only scored in the 5's never had a 6 and am trying really hard to get one, it would mean so much to me, i have not had any type of training as a photographer and am not able to go to night school because of my job as a baker, even if some was to say get this book and do a picture from chapter 1 and send it to me for a critique, or what ever.
