Side Challenge for November

Take pictures of things that you either love or hate

The 'rules' (together with a bit of reasoning)

1. Challenge will be for 7 days only and will start...well anytime you want it to within November...for one person it could be the 1st to the 7th for another the 23rd to the 30th. Just what suits you best, it does not even matter if the days are not consecutive

OK the reason for this is that I know that the 30/1 day challenges are a bit much for some people. Not all challenges have to be about endurance and I want this one to be fun and never a hassle for people who also have work, family etc commitments outside DPC. Of course if people want to they could do two three or even four Sweet and Sour seven day challenges in the month

2. You can comment on as many or as few pictures as you like but for each picture you should leave at least one positive comment AND one constructive comment where you think the shot could be improved or what you dont like about it (These are the sweet and sour elements of the challenge)

I love getting some of the comments I have received doing side challenges, they are invariably positive and encouraging...BUT...the fact that I still have not averaged above a six in a 'real' challenge suggests perhaps that they are being too kind. My thought here was by having to leave at least one positive and negative comment about a shot people will not only gain encouragement but also some very useful ideas as to how they could improved their shots

3. No restrictions on editing etc, do as much or as little as you like. Just enjoy it

OK I would be grateful for other peoples thoughts on this, there is no 'official' sign up but it would be good to gain a sense as to whether people like the idea or not

I really like this idea. I have tried to participate in a few side challenges, but life always gets in the way before the 30 days are up!

If you want to make it even less stressful for people, you could just have them post seven pictures during the month, without even the restriction of having to be taken on consecutive days ...

hmm i was gonna suggest that you pick a time frame to get this done because if you leave it open for the month, i bet the comments will kind of dwindle off due people forgetting this was going on.

I'm in, and in favor of the "be constructive" commenting portion of the project. I'd note that all who participate need to understand that the constructive commenting will not be meant to cut down anyone's work - just ideas from the commenter's perspective as to things to try.

I would like to join in. May need some help, never entered a side challenge. Hope I don't drive you crazy with questions, and I could use some constructive comments.

I'm in - I'll be on vacation during 1/2 of November and away from the computer so this would be a good challenge I could 'collect' images for.

As someone else who has never even scored a 6, this sounds perfect. I think my shots are good, but I'm missing the whatever it is that makes them great.

I agree that the 30 day challenges are a bit much - I did Sept. & only had to miss & make up a few days, but I was sure ready for it to be done. This sounds much more doable.

Any chance we could get some typical mid- to high-six participants (or ribbon winners) to give some constructive comments?

I am extreamly busy but I would like to try this.

I like the 7 days concept - 30 days is so demanding and I LOVE the sweet/sour comment. The "sour" comments are what help us improve and reach that elusive 6.0 score. Count me in!
