Hey everybody. I just moved across Canada and didn't lug my monitor along. I need a good monitor, especially for photo editing (obviously). Looking at a CRT. Any suggestions. I've heard good things about Viewsonic, but was hoping for other suggestions as well. Thanks.

Check the nearby thrift shops if you are short on cash from the move.
I use a G5 Power Mac, and recently switched from CRT to Studio Cinema Display LCD. No contest, the LCD kicks butt over the CRT.

well, my brother has a lcd, and mine is an old massive analog monitor, i have to say, when editing pictures on his, they appear bright, but then when i put them on mine and on paper, they are dark. and when i put a photo from my computer onto his, its extremely bright, i like the VGA more than LCD :) just casue that reason, definatly go to a store that has them all on display and get one with a nice color to it though, nothing to harsh. vga also come in flat screen, which is nice, but not flat pannel

I'm a pretty big fan of places like Tiger Direct that handles refurbished components.

The warranties are generally just as good as a new unit and you can get a lot more bang for your buck.

About three years ago, when 17" LCD monitors were going $300 to $350, I got my NEC/Mitsubishi for $219.95 plus a nominal shipping charge and I've been delighted......good servce from the unit since.

Here thay have a 19" NEC with speakers for $159.95:

Here's their current listing of 19" monitors:

Just one of many possible solutions......just decide how big you want and Google away!

ETA: I picked up a 17" Dell LCD at a yard sale this summer for $50 that works just fine, too.

I must admit though, that I slow down at yard sales a lot and virtually never see an LCD monitor.

ETA Again: That 19" NEC monitor has a $50 rebate 'til November 30th, too!
