My that's expensive! I'd rather save my money and then gather other photographers who are willing to fly librodo in the US and get a workshop from him.... he teaches post processing too from what I know...

I do not understand why expressing an opinion in forum makes someone have no-class. (and same time you are also expressing your opinion and doing the same).
Further eric merely stated what he felt. (and some others including me also did the same). How does it make him having no-class. I simply do not understand.

What Joey has posted is clearly is an Ad. And this aruguemt that 'if you want to buy it just buy it or leave it' has been iterated so many times in this thread. Which is indirect way of telling that this is product take it or leave it.
If this is a product don't you think it has to be in buy/sell forum. Or if it does not fit anywhere, it shall not be anywhere.
Why pointing this out becomes no-class issue.

By what you said, if someone goes with popular view than he has class other wise he is just rude (as someone pointed out)

Please stay on topic. This thread is about the DVD, and not the behavior of the participants. Like it? Love it? Post your review here.

Thanks.

Future off-topic posts will be hidden. If you MUST discuss how shameful the behavior of the thread participants has been, please start a Rant thread. No personal attacks, please.

FWIW, to the naysayers? The pricing is actually rather competitive with other professional products. I just took a look at the Working With Artists class offerings and the most comparable classes are MORE expensive.

Joe is a pro who knows his shit. I can't afford it, but I'm okay with that.

Can anyone offer a review yet?

Looking forward to hearing about it.

Yep pricing is okey and I can afford it too. But won't be buying it. This is not a kind a photography I wish to do. I do not like this style, so won't be buying it.

Was any of your comment truly necessary or even germane to the discussion at hand. A simple "Not interested" would have provided us with the insight that you are not inclined to purchase the product.

I just spent 12 hours going through random ebay listings submitting messages to sellers of items I am not interested in buying, letting them know I am not interested. I think they deserve to know.

Same way telling that I am intrested in the product is truely not even necessary. So we just get back to - if you want to buy just buy it ....
You see the problem.

Hey Joey - if you're still reading, =)

Awesome work - love the site, love the images, loved the first tutorial. Thanks for sharing!

Yes I do... and find it rather sad that our optics in this regard can be so far apart.

There was a reason why I wrote what I wrote. During this thread some people mentioned (and Judi tried to start a thread) saying that the price is out of some people's league. It may not be the case, there are people who can afford to spend this much but do not see any point in doing so. Just that someone does not want to buy is not automatic can not afford case. Most of us do make good amount of money. Isn't it.

Wow such bitterness in this thread......

I have gone through most of the lessons with my son. For me, this is the best way to learn, watching someone work is great. I have spent money on photoshop classes (which were more than the DVD) and on photoshop books, but I feel like I have learned more this weekend than I have the last year. I have photmatix and lucisarts and enjoy them both, but I enjoy learning how to do some of these techniques in PS.

Will all my images look like JL's? Don't think so, 90% of the images I take are florals (for the wifes flower shop) and shots of our kids. But the techniques and the process can be used in many ways (not just grunge and textures) throughout PS.

I find the DVD informational, fun, creative and inspiring. My son thinks it's way cool.

You charge what you can get. Supply and demand. Joey is in demand, thus the price just went up to be able to hang with him.

Congrats on the release Joey, good luck with everything that you are doing.

There are so many FREE photoshop tutorials on the web, I can't believe someone would be willing to pay that much for something you can get for FREE. Dude, good luck on your business venture, but like I have said for years, price it right, and you'll make more.(I.E. check out the prices for concessions at a movie theater. Better prices means people will by from the movie theater and not sneak it in) :-)

I'm in, just downloading the zip file now.

Thanks Joey for posting this on here, I would never of heard of it otherwise. I faintly remember an expression stating that all publicity is good publicity. ;)

Ignore the haters, they're only doing you a service by keeping the thread alive. :)

Joey! the best of luck I was hoping for a price similar to the last one (maybe I was expecting something less comprehensive). No budget for that right now, sorry!

Well Lordy! This has quitened down a bit.....but as they say "People don't remember what you do or say, but they always remember how you make them feel!
I'm not sure why I felt compelled to respond to this thread initally, but in OZ you always back the underdog, avoid the tall poppy syndrome!.........and support young talent!!!!
I decided to go and see why I liked Joey's work in the first instance and I'm not even sure that I can do this (as I still get tangled in theads and have problems posting)...
but I have spent a wonderful two hours browing and actually found a few other gems off the front page. Please take the time to read the comments!! They are what makes him one of my favs, and gives his story the meaning and to the work, that I have fallen in love with!

Let's talk visually (this is a photographic site) and he has already told you so much of his story. Were you looking?

"Fucking Typical"
Had to have crossed his mind at least once in this thread!

"Up"
Wish I'd 'a done that at 17! One of my favs! Why are you suprised at his success? He's telling you! Read the comments!

"Light at the End of the Tunnel"
Damn! Hope he could still see this!

"Home is Where the Heart Is?"
Doesn't look to me like he forgets his roots easily!

"Aww too Much Work"
Now if Joey had said that we would not be even having this conversation!

"Repent"
If you suck up and buy the first beer....maybe! It's up to Joey!

My new personal favourite! Like De Sousa's portrait (no fake tatts! IMO) the dirt on these hands is real and not painted IMO!

Now for my prattle! Joey your work inspires me! I think you have an understanding of life beyond your young years. Why! Because it leaps out from the page at me! I am so happy to see you doing, and being successful at something that you are passionate about. So many young people (and old ones) never find what their passion is, and spend so many years searching for it! Don't ever be safe, and thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Oh! About the cost........LMAO!! Cheap at twice the price! Wish I'd have thought to do this sooner, at the height of contraversy!

10/15/2007 09:19:25 AM · #170
Here is my ten cents worth, just so I don't feel left out ;-)

1) He is not sharing, he is selling! That's what charging money for something means.

2) The price is Joey's business, no matter what we think of it (but that doesn't mean nobody should be allowed to talk about it). If Joey prefers to sell a few at a higher price rather than loads more for less, it is his choice.

3) I can't wait to see how the SC will handle the very next person's (who isn't of Joey's "fame") wish to advertise their wares! I bet I wouldn't have been allowed to do this!

4) I agree with Zaar on this:

looks nice. But too pricey for me. too bad.

Actually, when you consider in this thread the number of people that would buy it at a lower price (say $100) simple economics (including the fact that the marginal cost is nil), tell you that Joey would make more money with a lower price tag. (300/100 = 3, but I can see more than 3 people ready to buy it at a cheaper price for each people ready to buy it at the current price).

But as other people said, that's joey's call.

Best of luck young man.

Just thought I would add two cents worth publicly.

Video tutorials are one of the most efficient ways to learn photoshop. I've been compiling a list of them and within a few hours they could help a total novice get to a basic level of competence to enter an advanced challenge.

Video tutorials also offer the feature of 'review as desired' and a really cool feature called 'fast forward' that doesn't come with most seminars.

Unlike written books, video tutorials can be viewed in a relaxed way when you feel tired and if you have already seen it, you can give your eyes a rest and just listen, letting your mind fill in the pics from memory. (sorry bear - no offense)

If you would like to better yourself, video tutorials from a number of sources can be excellent modes of improvement.

While there are indeed many available on the net, there are also many which aren't actually all that helpful as they are presented poorly or by people that don't really know what they are doing. In addition, it can also be fairly difficult to see what's going on due to small screen real estate used. I dare say that there aren't that many fully packed full screen 2 hour long video tutorials out there.

Not saying anything really specific here, just tossing it out there.

I've got my download. Now I need everyone to vacate the office so I can watch it. Bummer I'm busy most nights this week, but I can get some headphones for my laptop and watch it on the train to & from work.

I've looked at the topics and it looks nicely organized into digestable parts.

:-)

I've never met Joey in person, but he was the very first member who really inspired me on this site (and my first "faved" photog). He has given me tips and feedback that have helped me tremendously. I purchased his first tutorial and learned a ton. I'm so thrilled that he is doing so well at such a young age. He deserves all the $$$, recognition, and encouragement he's getting for sharing his talent.

I don't know how I'm gonna budget for this latest DVD, but you can bet your sweet bippie, I'm gonna! There are a bunch of instructional DVDs on PS out there, but I'd be hesitant to invest in them (not knowing the individual instructor's true prowess). With Joey's work, there is never any compromise - only the best. And the best deserves to be compensated accordingly. (I'll bet you that in a couple of years, you'll look back and think this was a bargain!)

Can't wait to get it! (Now I've gotta go search for coins in my couch...) ;-P

ROCK ON JOEY!

I like Joeys work, very creative and inspiring.

However, as a hobbyest $250 is abit more than I currently want to spend for educational material.

I do look forward to feedback on it though, maybe one day when I have some money burning a hole in my pocket I will pick one up.

**edit for spelling **
