You mean the urban legend. The event that never actually happened.

Yeah I know it never happened. But it still reminds me of the story. Harry Potter never happened either, but it is a story too.

What about getting some sponsors and placing advertising space in the beginning or ending credits to help aleviate the cost?

I know this DVD is very much worth every single penny.
I wish I had the pennies to send your way!
If I win the lottery, I'll look you up!

Best of luck with the adventure!

I only wish that you'd given more thought and consideration to those of us that bought your first video. Some of us saw that you had an unbelievable talent, so we tossed the fee to you so that you could get your equipment. I didn't NEED the video, I just wanted to do my part to help you get started. Maybe you made enough to get what you wanted...maybe you didn't, but we gave you a shot. For that, we still get to pay $229. You have really disappointed me with this. If the tables were turned, I'd offer it as the same price that those who believed in me bought it for the first time. But, as long as you can live with yourself, price it however you see fit. I am still happy for you, and hope that you continue to do well. I also hold hopes that you always offer to share a little bit of what you know and learn with others. Do that, and no one can ever fault you. Best of luck, Joey. I'll just have to catch the video on limewire.

See you in Calgary, and I'll buy the first round. Just name your poison.

Wow eric, that was a very back handed. You first come off saying how your dissapointed in him then you say that you want to buy him a drink to cover up your lack of tacked.

Just because you cant afford the discs, doesnt mean other people cant. This site is largley for the none perfessional. So I am sure that you will not be able to afford it. As for the price.
Go look at a few others that are not offer nearly as much.

Kevin Kubotas actions, they actually kinda suck. and there over 400 dollars.

There are countless others and they dont even include step by step videos!!
So give the kid a break and buy your self a round.

...and inappropritae IMHO. He's offering a product, buy it or don't buy it, the choice is yours, no need to knock people down. No-one is forcing anyone to part with their $$$. And to suggest that you'll go pirate the video on Limewire is quite inappropriate.

I think it is quite inappropiate to have a product ad in tips tricks and Q&A, and funny thing is SC put this thread here.

He didn't suggest that. He said he'd watch the video when it made it to limewire.

But I do agree that eric's post is way-over-the-top harsh. Just because we were here when Joey was starting out, and some of the community supported him by buying his first video and giving him a start, doesn't mean he owes us squat. Nor should he be made to feel like he does.

tee hee. 300 bucks US for me is 3 months food, rent, electricity and gas for my scooter. But then again, I work 2 months out of the year for now...

Glad to see the video has finally been made! Nothing like the triumph of completion.

Hopefully it'll be a while before it does find its way to limewire.

Joey,

Congrats on the completion of the second DVD. What is the total running time? If/when I do get it i'll have to get the hard copy as I don't trust downloading things on this laptop.

But i'm sure its great and I am most intrigued about the textures you have included with it... should be interesting.

Good luck for the future.

I don't get the bitching in this thread. Buy or don't buy. I'm pretty sure he could sell the DVD for over a thousand but even if he's overcharging so what? Anybody care to share their own photography fees and subject themselves to similar judgement? Probably not.

Eric's post isn't that bad. A lot of people DID buy the first video to support Joey more than to learn Joey's process. They were doing it to help a kid from the site. But, things have changed since then. Joey has done some commercial work, graduated from high school and is an adult business person now. He deserves the respect he has earned. He just maybe made this for the "professional" photographer.
I don't think anyone should complain about how expensive the video is. Just like any professional, his "work" has to be priced at a reasonable level. It's funny that people expect to earn hundreds of $s off a stock sale for one picture, and yet they say Joey is charging to much. What if his dvd helped someone make more pictures that sold for $700. Would it still be to high priced? What if it helped a portrait photographer increase his/her sales by 30%. I guess the investment is relative to what you expect to l/earn by getting the video.
I'd buy it, and be happy that I could help him pay for a class at college, but I don't have a tv or a sound card on my computer. I'd buy the book though, if there ever was one made...hint..hint.

Total running time is about 2 hours with all the materials and lessons. Be careful when downloading with a wireless connection, 1.3 gigabytes leaves a lot of room for errors. If you have any troubles just shoot me an e-mail and we'll figure it out. Thanks!

Ever worked for a company and told your boss over and over something that makes perfect sense -

Then he goes and hires a high-priced consultant that tells him the same thing and he acts like it's the first time he's heard it and goes on and on about how great this consultant is?

There's something about familiarity that breeds this kind of casual approach to great information.

We pay Gary Fong for his crap, but dis Joey because he "grew up" here.

I thought the first Joey DVD was way under priced for what I got out of it (I've paid $3,000 total for a conference that I got less out of).

Go Joey go!

For those knocking the price and suggesting how much more money could possibly be making by selling at a cheaper price...

Suppose you were in Joey's shoes and you knew you had something people wanted and knew you could profit off of it...
Now you have two options...
A.Sell ALOT of copies at $50.00-$100.00 and make X.XX amount of money and have ALOT of people who now know some of the secrets that have made your work a success...
B. Sell less copies at $250.00-299.00 and make a profit possibly close to or maybe even more then selling them cheap... AND now instead of everyone in the world knowing some of your techniques, a small group now know...

Sounds like Joey's choice was a good one to me.I think it is a smart business move and I doubt it will be a regret.

Yeah, that's happened to me. The boss thought the consultant was soooo great until we reminded him of the development we had done 2 years earlier on the same solution, only to be told that it was unacceptable from a "marketing perspective". We let the consultant flail and flounder about for a while in developing a solution before we let him see our earlier work.

Silly question: is the price in Canadian $$$ or USD?

I'm in UK so Canadian would be favourable :)

It's in USD but our dollar is so similar these days it shouldn't be too different. If you are having trouble converting to pounds you can use the little converter box on the side of the order page. :-)

If someone that has already purchased the tutorial can let me know if there is stuff in there that will help my current situation it would be appreciated. I have been shooting local indie bands in the crummiest venues with the worst lighting and horrid (think wood paneling!) backgrounds.

TIA

I agree. In researching where to set my fees I have seen some of the people complaining's fees and they are way overpriced as far as I am concerned. Specifically some of those that have been the most vocal. If you asked them why their prices are so high they would say that is what their time is worth. Do you expect everyone to buy your expensive services? no but those that can afford them will and you will have a successful business if you do good work. This is what joey thinks his time is worth and is his right to set. And Eric complaining about only a $20 discount to those that bought his first DVD is like friends and family asking for big discounts and or free work. Neither is very nice as far as I am concerned. I don't understand why so many people here always have to chime in with negative thoughts, no matter what the topic is. if you don't like it just ignore the thread and don't buy the DVD.

I learned allot from his first DVD and I don't feel it will make your work look just like his. Personally I think he has shown allot more maturity in this thread as he is being almost chastised, than allot of people far older than him. keep up the great work Joey.Maybe I will pick this up next year (GH3 and Rockband are talking my play money)

What's it going to help you with? Fixing shitty lighting later on in photoshop?

Spend the $300 on some lights.

If you like I can burn a dvd with me saying just that, and you can send me a few hundred bucks to cover my time :p
