I'm pretty excited. On Friday, January 30th, 2004, the latest issue of the weekly magazine Dog News was sent to subscribers. In that issue, an ad that I designed and which prominently features a photo I took, was published as a full-bleed (Dog News pages are half an inch shy of an 11x15 print, so they are pretty big) advertisement in full color. I haven't seen the actual issue yet, but I've heard it looks "really good". (I sent the ad to Dog News as a camera-ready PDF file.)

This is the first time anything of mine has actually been published at something close to "mass quantity".

You may recognize Callie from my "Point Of View" challenge entry. I took that photo the same time I took the pic featured in the ad. You can also see a 1.25:1 crop of the photo used on the calendar. (I had it printed by DPCPrints as a 16x20 and it looked fantastic!)

After getting Cosmo from them as a pet, I've become very good friends with the breeder/handler of Callie, which is how I got "involved" in taking pictures of their dogs. I also did a "session" with Andy (who currently holds the record for the most Best In Show wins by a Shih Tzu); my favorite from that shoot is also in my portfolio.

I KNEW that dog shot was way under-rated. Stupid dog-picture haters .

Great to see that one of your awesome dog shots got the recognition it deserves. Congatulations and keep up the good work.

Fabulous shots of your "girl", EddyG, and congratulations on being published! I have a friend who is a Shih Tzu breeder, and cannot wait to show her these pics.

Awesome shot, congratulations. I LOVE the concept and execution of the ad as well. We bred and showed Lhasa's when I was a teen and I know how patient your model must have been (or how quick to get the best shot you had to be)! Louise

Everyone: Thanks for all the great replies! Except you Kollin. (Just kidding.)

Louise: thanks for commenting on the ad "concept"; I thought it would be a cute idea based on her name. Glad you liked it.

Neil: great shot! This was an advertisement paid for by the owner of Callie, so unfortunately it wasn't like I submitted it and they said "wow! we gotta publish this!" If you pay the money, I'm sure they would publish just about anything. =) I was just excited that her owner liked my ad design and photo enough to want to pay for it to be published.
