Just want some information about airline travel with camera equipment...should I check it or declare it and take as carry-on. I have a medium sized aluminum case with a 400D, 30D, 430ex flash and 5 lens in it. Any information would be helpful....traveling to Florida from Texas tomorrow and back on Sunday.

Thanks!

if you can fit it, take it as carry-on. I wouldn't check it if I could help it at all.

Take as carry-on!!!! Dont check your camera gear all you need is for it to come up missing.

I have travel plenty of places with my camera on the plane even to china a twice no problems at all as carry-on.

CHECK IT?!?!?! Are you NUTS?

I flew through London to Kenya a scant months after the "gel" scare. I carried my gear on with ease.

Never check in your camera equipment. Always as a carry-on.

yep even if you have to check your usual bag and take all the equipment as carry on in another bag, if your usual one is too big.

Never, Never, Never, Never check your camera gear in!!! Those guys will break it, or worse still, steal it!

I have travelled extensively with laptop and camera with no problems.

Other than India, where they are very strict about the "one piece of lugage" per passenger policy, you will find that you should have no issues.

One carry-on? Have they changed things? It was one carry-on and one personal thing. I always took my rolling camera backpack and a large tote to carry my laptop. Putting the laptop into the rolling pack would be just a bit too large to fit in the overhead compartment.

You can bring one carry-on and one personal item, which can be your camera bag. I've done this lots of times without any problem.

NEVER ever check in your camera gear or laptop. I use a Lowepro Computrekker AW, it fits my MacBook Pro laptop in a separate compartment, my 1D II, my 70-200 f/2.8L IS, my 24-70 f/2.8L, 16-35 f/2.8L, 50mm f/1.4, 550EX, spare battery, 80GB FlashTrax Drive, flash cards, filters, batteries...ALL in one compact bag that's carry-on legal on all airlines.

Actually in india they just need an excuse to trouble you, the excuse could be anything.

From the man who went without clean clothes and his battery charger for several days. lol

Didn't you have to pack the 500mm too?

Keep it with you all the time. If it is in your possession, the risk of anything happening greatly decreases. I have a large camera bag with lots of equipment and I spend a great amount of time crossing the globe. I have heard horror stories about lost/damaged equipment from cargo holds as well as taxi boots/trunks.

Nooo, I used a Lowepro Omni Trekker that allowed me to carry on my 500 f/4 without Lens hood, 1D II, 70-200, 24-70, 16-35, spare battery, flashtrax, flash, better beamer, CF cards. It was a work of art in terms of packing everything in a compact space and making it look legal, it weighed a ton but "looked" carryon legal. LOL. Clothes? Who needs clothes?

Before you take anything to the airport and perhaps find out that you are only allowed one item, or that perhaps one of the carry-on bags is too large, you might give serious consideration to contacting your carrier and asking them two direct questions, namely:

- How many items are you allowed to take with you inside the plane? and,
- What are the maximum dimensions of the bag you wish to carry one?

You will find that policy in this regard can vary substantially from one airline to the other.

Have a happy trip and good luck.
