Maybe I missed the mark, but if you get a score of "1" from somebody, shouldn't that mean you did not meet the challenge! In other words the people you would give a photo a score of "1" just don't get the idea of trying to help others with the content or style of their photos! Personally, I try to think of those who give a "1" as being "1's" themselves. Happy hunting!

Bruster,

welcome to the world of DPC! Get used to the one votes... There are very few photos that don't get ones ..... :) Hang in there :)

yep. you'd think if someone didn't like something that much, they'd tell ya why, but I guess people are afraid to be that honest. Or something.

it's just a game that the photographers play to try to improve their ovrall chances of winning :)

K, I know you're joking about that -- but you shouldn't joke -- you'll start the whole "oh my gosh, voters can screw up the score in their favor" thread again for the new people who havent seen the old ones. *grin*

I think drew and langdon have a pretty tight grip on what happens with those votes... :)

ya know what? you're prolly right. if i was unscrupulous, and i only gave 1's to the best pics, I could suppress the 'competition' without blowing my cover!

To me, a one would be missing the basic elements of photography, poor focus/exposure, horrible composition, a truly horrible subject. Hydrabad Princess does not deserve a "1". All the basic elements of a good photograph are there, putting it at 5 or higher.

Anyone can suppress the really goo photos by giving them 1's or 2's and the not so good photos 10's to even out your voting..and even make your profile look like youare a reasonable voter.

But Holy Mary....if the voting here is that important to you that you would go to that trouble maybe there is something going on that a photo site can't remedy :-)

I don't even talk about what photo's I like before the voting is over for fear of pissing someone off and having them go over to the photo and put a low score on it.;-)

I'm getting pretty good scores but no comments..I need to add some f**k's! and tortured animals to it to at least get an EwwwWw!..

i think everyone is being stingy with the comments this week. has to do with the huge # of submissions is my guess ..

Also remember that there are some of us who vote first, then go back and comment later.

I do that sometimes, too. I must say, though, that voting and commenting on these images is lots of fun with the wide range of subjects and creativity, despite the fact that there's 50% more images to vote on this week.

Yes, I do that, too. I vote on all pictures in one go (did that this morning) and then I go back and comment and tweak through the rest of the week.

absolutely. i think more people than usual, though, this week are voting first, commenting later, just to make sure they get their voting in.

could be just a hunch : )

It's not the importance of the score, but the information gained from comments and trying to improve my work that is important.

I didn't comment on your picture because I felt I was too much of a novice to make a good comment. I liked the picture, had no idea how you made it, but took the administrators' word for it that it met the challenge. I'm hoping to find out in the "How did they do that?"

You are never too much a novice to know what you like or don't like. You just sometimes may lack the fancy vocabulary to describe it to impress the gearheads ;-)

I like my photos's unconditionally..they are like my kid's...their mine even if they have snotty noses and toilet paper stuck to their shoe.

I don't mind you mentioning the toilet paper or even the snotty nose. Be careful though, one day these kids may grow up to be Bill Gates and own the world!! ( or Jeffrey Dahmer and eat your neighbors!!)

Of all the photos I have voted on here I have seen many 3s, a couple 2s but never any 1s. Giving a 1 to a photo that is clean and in focus is wrong, even if it doesnt meet the challenge. Look at any average photo on this site and you will see at a few 1s. I just dont get it.
