Ok, forget DPL or whatever... I need to start something new without waiting DPL. This is not a contest; just a few photographer getting together asking opinions for each other’s challenge photos before enter them. Unfortunately I live in NJ and not many people around me to ask stuff.

I need 5 people that will stay with me all the time, 5 people that I can ask any of my photos that I think I should enter. My entry might change due to suggestions I would receive. Same for the rest of the 5, I am always happy to give my opinion for their photos if asked.

I called this stuff "DPC OFs" (DPC Opinion Friends), and you also could get your own group... and if you like you can always keep those people for the next DPL, when the heck ever starts again.

...anyone interested?

You will have to be careful about this and make sure that you all vote objectively - if at all - on each others photos. I would recommend not voting on a photo you recognise if you were to go ahead with this, as voting is closely monitored.

I am an IT guy and I know database. You probably have about everything in the database stats per user, their logins, votes, IPs, computer server names and form posts, who we contacted and whole nine yard... investigation you guys do is not done by FBI, but database outputs most likely, so, I am not planning to cheat... although, thanks for the warning, that gave me opportunity to tell what I know, so next guy or girl would be careful contacting me.

When it comes to voting, I hope 5 votes will not save my photo, I probably need more than that if I want to get a ribbon anyway ;)

Thanks again :)

I would like to help if you'd have me, and could always use help with my shots as well, why they work why they don't, that sort of thing, I know where you're coming from, comments and suggestions before the damage is done.

I don't enter a lot of challenges these days due to my work schedule but I always have time to help a friend. PM me and let me know more details if you'd like.

Same thing is true if you recognize the person in the photograph as being a member, or a family member, or pet of a member? Should it also be encouraged to refrain if you recognize the style of a member so well that you know it's their photograph even though you have never seen the picture before?

If you can't manage to vote objectively then, yes, skip it. Likewise, if you can vote entirely on the merits of the photo itself and not who shot it, then seeing the picture beforehand shouldn't matter.

I'll be happy to offer you feedback on images fordman. I will refrain from voting on them.

This is a great idea.

I seldom enter challenges (even though I quite often shoot for them!) and would love to receive feedback on potential challenge entries as I'm sure I don't always enter the right shot.

So, I'd be willing to offer support to you by way of pre-challenge feedback, if you would also do it for me? (I'm not in a DPL team and don't have time to enter challenges every week anyway).

I would also refrain from voting on the entry.

Right, but there's a HUGE difference between "I've seen this before it was entered" or "I can guess who took this" and "I helped with suggestions on how to edit, how to crop, etc."

On our DPL team, we offer suggestions of all kinds, including on challenges not part of DPL, and we agree not to vote on each others' pics even in those.

I'd suggest just stating up front that anyone sharing ideas won't vote on each others' pictures.

First off, I want to thank Bear_Music for offering his insight on my shots, I will probabally take you up on that offer at some point in the future.

Secondly I agree with focuspoint that it will take more than five or so votes to sway a members score one way or another, I feel what will effect your score more is comments and suggestions on how to better your immage before you submit it for the world to see.

I'd be up for this too. I can use the feedback on my own pics and it will "encourage" me to pull my camera out of my bag at least once a week!

And yeah, yeah, I know all about the not voting each other's pics unless you can do it objectively yet better yet not at all speech. And FP, for the IT guy you are, I got out a couple years ago and it still tries to suck me back in. Why is it when someone finds out you know about pc's they instantly want your help?

I am preparing a place for us to exchange photos. This will be fun. I am looking forward to (finally) get some insights about my pictures, some opinions, and hopefully, improve my photography and help you to do the same.

Stand by those who are interested in, you will receive pms from me today.

I am all for helping out and not voting at all. If you still need one more, I think it would be a great way to learn and help out my fellow DPC'r at the same time.

Let me know if I am needed

Our group is,

fordmanf1
katmystiry
salmiakki
sea2c
777STAN
Hot_Pixel
justamistere
Redjulep

...so 8 people, that's ok. I am increasing this number to 10 (including myself) so we need another 1 people, although we don’t have to fill it right away if no interest.

Also, if you guys think this could be something new in DPC, and we should name our group, please feel free to suggest names. Naming could be voted between us.

Thanks again, you all will receive information via pms how to take a look our pictures securely.

Ok, you all will receive pms. Please keep it clean and light, all we are doing here is asking suggestions for entry photos only, or similar photos that you'd think would be a good idea... so, I hope we started something good here... I see none of other group members have ribbons yet, let's see if this idea helps us to get one :)

Thanks

I've always felt I can vote objectively whenever I vote.
I'd love to try this.
I think that many times I can pick the top fifteen, once I see all of the entries.
It's like Poker, it all depends what the others have in a particular challenge.

EDITED: I am currently a member (Team Captain) of the DPL Team "Motley Crew", I hope that should not be of any conflict here, because I always wanted to do something like this to improve my/and others skills. Sometimes it's just a matter of selecting which one out of 5 to submit.

I would like to be part of this if possible. I have zero objectivity when it comes to my own shots and value input very much. But I feel I'm a good observer of other people's shots, so I'd be glad to give input.

Hi all,

I uploaded two pictures for "half" challenge. If you have time please take a look. I would like to know if the idea is good. Any suggestions for the actual photos would be useful also.

I am going to do more shooting next two days; I am planning to enter to "half", "technology II" and "Sept. Free Study".

Thanks

PS: please put this post to your "watch list" to track it easly.
------------------------------
EDITED FOR SCs... We do have separate place to show our photos. When I say "uploaded" doesn't mean uploaded to DPC challenge database, but uploaded to our "photo room" somewhere in the Internet. Just to let you know, if you think I gave my DPC logins to other people, that's a big NO!

I'll join in if there is room.
Haven't entered challenges in a while, but just bought a 40D today, so next month - watch out!

Left you my comments .. but while looking and typing which didn't take THAT long .. I got timed out. Is there a way to set the time out a bit higher?
