Greetings Everyone.. this will now be the official thread for The First Annual Third in a Row Europe Meets Canada Workshop 2008!

The DPC Europe Photography Workshop/GTG was a huge success for the second year in a row (many thanks to Gary and Nasti and Azrifel ~Sander~ for their tremendous hard work and dedication to the DPC population), therefore after numerous requests and much discussion over many beers and feigling's, we ( Pedro~Peter Marlin, Shecoya~Roz Goldsworthy, Kiwiness~Gary Kapluggin and Anastasia~Nasti Kapluggin) have decided to repeat the same event in 2008 in Calgary, Alberta Canada..

The DPC Photography Workshop will take place on July 5th, 2008 for which we are now officially taking registrations. The following day (July 06) will be a general GTG walk around for which no registration is required, everybody is welcome.

To register for the workshop please write Peter and myself (Roz) an email Please include: what your user name is here on DPC to europemeetscanada@gmail.com. We're not looking for payment until the New Year, but we are looking for FIRM commitments only. If you're interested but can't make a firm commitment, feel free to express your interest here and your name will go on the list… firm respondents (those who send us an email to the address above) will get first priority. Be quick because the list will fill fast.

We have yet to confirm the facility we will be using but that information is forthcoming in the very near future, (our options look great) so you will be able to start planning. **IMPORTANT**: once we post that information it would be in your best interest to book your room as soon as possible. Each year due to the international draw for the Stampede, flights and hotels tend to fill up quickly.**

The price for the 4 workshops including refreshments and snacks throughout the day and buffet lunch is $200.00 Canadian dollars. The fee will cover the cost of the facility and equipment rental, food / beverages during the workshop, speaker/model fees & incidentals.

The tentative program for the workshop (subject to change) on July 5th , is as follows:

9:00 - 10:00 Informal meeting, introductions and description of the workshop agenda.

10:00 -11:00 (Roz Shecoya and Rene) Preparing the models for the day: Make
up/hair (or wigs) and Styling as determined by the individual groups for the sessions.

11:00 – 13:00 Workshop rotations

13:00 – 14:00 lunch

14:00 – 16:00 Workshop rotations

16:00 – 17:00 Informal meeting and feedback session.

18:00 -? Outdoor shooting with the models. (light is typically good until 21:00)

We have not planned an evening event although we will have a number of possibilities which we can discuss after the feedback session.

The tentative (subject to change) workshops that each participant will rotate through are:

1) Advanced Studio Lighting Techniques by Anastasia ( Anastasia Kapluggin)
2) Image processing in Photoshop, by Kiwiness, ( Gary Kapluggin)
3) Working With Models and Make up artists by Pedro, (Peter Marlin)
4) How to get Models drunk and naked and how as photographers we learn to remember its the models who take off their clothes not us ;) ~just seeing if you were still paying attention~ :)

**we are working on some other workshop surprises and will let you know closer to the date as they are confirmed** stay tuned ;)

For those who aren't familiar with Calgary:

City Attractions:

Calgary is a fairly large city (1 million people) is the foothills of the ridiculously picturesque Rocky Mountains. July is mid-summer here, so you can expect temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees celcius (70-85 F). It is home to the Calgary Stampede, which runs annually for ten days starting July 4, 2008. The city seems to shut down for the ten day event. Each day there are free pancake breakfasts with entertainment, honky tonk bars on every corner, and a huge rodeo, midway, and fair at the Stampede grounds. far too much to list. For more info. Visit this link: //calgarystampede.com

There are also plenty of other attractions with a western flavour: Fort Calgary is a fun attraction that features the development of the west; Heritage Park is a family favourite that will take you back in time; the Calgary Zoo is world renowned for its diverse animal and ecological exhibits; the Calgary Tower will give you a unique view of the Rockies to the west, the city itself and the prairies to the east.

Calgary 's parks and recreation facilities are counted among the best in the world – Calgary was the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics. The legacy of the Olympics continues in the facilities at Canada Olympic Park.

Easy Day Trips:

* Spruce Meadows (horse training and equestrian facility): 1/2 hour south
* Bar U Historical Ranch: 1 hour south
* Banff National Park and the town of Banff: 1 hour west
* Jasper National Park: 5 hours northwest
* Lake Louise : 2 hours northwest
* Drumheller, the badlands and the Royal Tyrell Museum: 2 hours east
* Camping is also another option for recreation or accommodation while you are here

My nephew is the Business Services co-ordinator at the convention center there. If you end up using them, he'll take VERY good care of you :)

His name is Michael DuBois. He wouldn't be the one you'd be contacting, but he'd be the one to make sure the group has everything they need, even on a second's notice :) He be a good kid!

Don't forget to add in a small amount to cover fried studio lights... :-) Whose lights will we be burning up this time, by the way?

I'm a definite maybe. I plan to be in the states mid-June, but maybe I can shift that to a bit later and add in Canada while I'm on that side of the pond.

You guys are very kind. it looks like that price is amazing. I can't see this being worth a penny less than 5 times that. I'd love to go, but I doubt that I will be in Canada anywhere near that time. I'll have to stick with the local models :)

For you.. YES..Although we have a feeling y'all are gonna really dig our Canadian beers.. ;)

(I think we have to start stockpiling beer soon too!! You know.... to keep up with Kiwiness and the example he set over in Europe for us all) :P

OH and Heida told me yesterday she wants to try some Banana in her Diet Cokes.. We're gonna be sure to make that happen too..

I was thinking that I'm not good enough for the workshops, but that it sounded wonderful; Colette's idea sounds like a good solution :)
My sis lives in Calgary and it's only 16 hours' travel... I'll have to mark this on the calendar :D
