not sure how long I'll last in this but I would like to join in and hopefully learn a little more about lighting in the process.

Wonderful idea, Joe! While I won't be able to participate (kinda lacking any control over light other than time of day at the moment) I will be watching when I can and trying to learn from what all of you do.

I think light during the day is what I will use most, you should join. :)

Prism, I got you on the list too. :)

I'm in. My flash is a bit dodgy after being dropped for the third time, but I can try to use my cheapo strobes.

Maybe I can build that DIY vagabond battery pack I've been wanting ;)

i'd love to be part of this please. Lighting is one side of my photography i'd really like to get better at. I can always see good lighting in my head (when i'm thinking of a shot)but when it comes to execution i'm falling down.

Hey Joe, You can count me in too. I've been doing a lot of experimenting lately and this will fit right in.

I also HIGHLY recommend Light: Science and Magic by Fil Hunter and Paul Fuqua to anyone who is looking for a book to launch a better understanding of lighting. I finally got my grubby paws on a copy and while I thought I knew a lot, this book filled in many gaps in my knowledge that I didn't know I had.

I will second getting this book. Unlike a lot of lighting books that I have seen that showcase some shots from the author's portfolio and give the lighting set-up of each shot, LSM (Light, Science and Magic) actually helps you gain a better understanding of how light works. This means that you can come up with your own lighting for the situation, other than just copying someone else's set-up.

I probably only have time to shoot on the weekends, but count me in anyway. I can at least comment and discuss during the week.

sounds interesting. Just paying attention to the light you find can make a huge difference, never mind starting trying to control or coerce it.

I think thats what I am going to try most of the time, available light. I need studio practice but won't have time to set up. 95% of what I shoot is in natural light so I'll try to see what I can find. You interested?

Sevil, you are added. :)

I recently started working with those huge reflectors that are set up in cities. Beautiful light. Tons of variety in colour and quality. Amazing range, lovely, wrap around effect.

So sure, I'm interested.

btw, I posted a couple of thoughts about using buildings as light modifiers with some examples here and here

If there's interest I might be tempted to do a bit more of a detailed discussion on how I find light in that sort of situation.
