Whether I'm in or out, I vote the same. Plus one vote isn't going to make that much difference (hides as people throw old shoes and rotten tomatoes for saying that)

Most of the recent challenges have gotten around 200 votes per entry (range 150-220). Thus any one vote only accounts for one half of one percent of the score. This ensures that the final score is the result of a group effort, and not influenced unduly by a troll or two (although I suspect we all worry about there being 50 trolls voting just on our own submission when we start to see scores of 4.xxxx). This also points out the importance of honest voters voting on as many challenges as possible (despite your opinion only accounting for a small portion of the final score), because the larger number of honest votes, the smaller the influence of the trolls.

I always vote in the challenges that I have entered. You should be able to look at others work with an open mind and not rate other peoples photos low to bolster your own.

I feel that if you are unable to be keep from being partial to your own work you would have a hard time voting under any conditions.

I have alway found other photos in all the challenges that I have entered that are better then mine and I have very happily rated them so.

It is the only way that I can be happy with the outcome of my own score. After all we try to teach or children to be honest and do the right thing and I couldn't sleep at night if I told them one thing and did the opposite.

Plenty of other people have done what you have inquired about and it is my understanding that they have not lasted long in this community. It is a great web site to belong to and people lok out for each other here.

Doubt Melethia's entry is boring. Mine is photographically uninteresting (better than boring?), but two nice people have commented; for awhile I thought I would achieve no comments. And for those who risk subtlety etc., do it, do it, do it.

I'm still only at 90 votes, but I did turn scores on and WOO HOO!!! I'm all the way up to 5.4! Way better than were it began, so I'm very pleased. I'll add that I don't really understand all the low scores, either - I'm nearly done with voting (got a few more to go) and I've enjoyed viewing the images in this challenge.

I will (if I remember!) start a "Let's discuss" thread after the challenge closes. Sometimes I think we miss a bit of a learning opportunity after challenges end because we're so caught up in the next one. But there will be a caveat - no whining! :-)

Sulking off into the darkness now................

I'm finding the same thing! I do the "stock photography" thing and I get the comments about it not being "interesting enough".......I shoot the types of photographs that I love and when I have the chance with editing rules, go off on a bit of an "artsy" tangent and people don't "get it" or don't want that either! (SIGH.....wanting to go open a bottle of aspirins....or something stronger)

Doesn't it feel a bit "inhibiting" when you're out there, shooting or setting up a studio shot that you have these "voices" in your head, nagging, asking you....."will DPC voters like this?" and the other voices inside yourself saying...."shoot what YOU like!"???

Ahhhh.....the voices, the voices......;)

But, here I sit as well.......

(looking for some Jack Daniels now.....darn.......I'm out of it from the last few challenges! ;))

Melethia........so happy to hear that your score is climbing!!!!!! (happy dance!) :)

I'm "up" for a discussion like that after this challenge is over.

And, I want to thank you for the info that you PM'd me about the comments area in our profiles.......I feel incredibly stupid because I did not know that! THANK YOU!!! HUGS!

LOL Melethia........how to get them to comment?????

Take a look at my shot for the "Without A Net" entry! LOL

I had meant it as a HUMOROUS shot (thus the title).......and I admit that I took a HUGE chance in doing it..........but, man.....I got COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!! I went WAY "outside the box" there but, never had so many comments LOL.

Nah.....don't go that route!

But....have to say......it earned me a ribbon! I am now the proud owner of the coveted "BROWN RIBBON"! LOL

Hi Puresilk.......welcome to HELL! *wink, smile, grin*

Yeah, we CAN vote on shots in the same challenge we are entered into but, I don't. The reason that I don't is because even though I want to think that I'm being objective, I fear that I may be just a bit biased and don't want to risk doing that to others, so for me, my personal decision is NOT to vote in a challenge that I'm entered into.

I DO however, go through every entry and I give comments where I have one to give! I just don't score them. As a friend said to me....by looking at others' photos in the challenge and comparing your own, you learn something. She is right.

Personally, I feel that I can be far more objective in voting in a challenge where I have no "emotional investment" and so, I vote in other challenges where I'm not entered in order to do my share of voting as well.

Best of wishes! Hope that your shot is doing well!

Thanks. Even if it wasn't so high in my lineup, I'd be happy. The comments are really great (Can't wait to see what the commenter's score is) - and Melethia like my subject, lol. Can't wait for the comment thread on these, because if she like this shot of them, she's gonna love the one I almost used!

One comment was "I see a green light. Therefore this isn't a silhouette."

????????

Anyways, this is a shot I think I enjoyed more than the voters.
