I cannot believe the comments I'm getting on my silhouette. It seems as though the average voter wants an image you'd see on toilet paper packaging or a 3.99 calendar. Nothing artful, nothing different. It makes me want to be weirder and more obscure.

Haha Jultilda! I have had that same problem. I find myself entering more subtle stuff because I know less people will get it. Must be a glutton for punishment :p

I'd like to propose a post-challenge comment thread for this one - everyone who has a not-so-hot score and no or few comments, let's get together afterwards and chat (well, open a thread anyway) about what we did right, what we did wrong. Mine, for instance, is rather boring.

I'm with you on that. I would say mine is lack luster. :(
If this was advanced editing it might have stood a chance.
It had potential, but as is.... I'll be happy if it breaks 5 :/
Edited, no comments either

Good idea I'd be up for that. I put an image in my B&W side challenge that I was considering putting in this challenge. It was as I'm finding out from the comments on it, that I should have gone with it. It is by the comments more tech. correct and not so ARTZY FARTZY as my other entry.

Slow but steady rise here. I'd rather see this than start out strong and then drop down all week.

Melethia's got a great idea; I'm surprised at so few comments.

I agree. Sounds like a good idea. I recieved a cryptic comment on my entry that I cannot tell if it was a criticsism or a compliment.

This is my second entry after registering last week. I find it hard to believe that one can vote on others pictures when you have a picture in the challenge yourself.

Or does it simply just ballance itself out between honest opinions and deliberate low votes.

Whether I'm in or out, I vote the same. Plus one vote isn't going to make that much difference (hides as people throw old shoes and rotten tomatoes for saying that)

The more you enter these contest, the more you will understand how a photo is considered "beautiful". Sometimes it isn't a subjective matter. When I got most low votes, I know it really sucks because most people think it sucks, although I thought it was a good entry. So this kinda sharpen my perspective a little... actually quite a lot :)

Btw...

Hmmmmmmmmm, at least when I vote I try and do it as fairly as I can... my opinions and views of each outtake will be completly different to everyone elses. What I may like may be some1 elses dislikes, I guess there is always the case of unfair voting for a reason or another, I do tend to back up shots for each that I like and say it was under rated once challenges are over. But this is a hard topic to go on about...

I vote the challenges I'm in. Who better knows the subject that someone who's shot for it? I'm not so partial to my own work that I can't look impartially at other shots dealing with the same subject. I learn alot that way, too. I see the different approaches that others took that I didn't think of, and I see ways that I could have done it better, too. Just be fair.

When we get to 100 votes, I'll check my score, but I am VERY pleased to report that I have a fav! (I can see that on the line on my profile page without turning on scores.) So I'm glad I didn't give up on it, regardless of what the score turns out to be!

I know from personal experience how long a week can be when a photo starts out slow (and in my case stays there...YIKES!!!)...but I'm so happy you got the fav! I can't wait to see which one is yours at the end of the challenge. Good Luck!

Finally two comments and they were faverable at that. At least two people get what I was trying to do and that makes it all good for me:-}

Melethia congrats on the fav. I'm so happy for you and I hope your doing well with score too.

I find that I vote more on the challenges I have entered, because I have a personal interest. I don't think anyone intentionally lowballs the votes they give to others. There's not a lot other than personal satisfaction riding on it, (at least not for a non-pro like myself) and it's all part of learning from others and improving your own talent.

I tend to vote lowest on those entries that look like snapshots, with no thought put into composition. After image quality and composition, I'll tend to vote higher on those entries that either have a large "Wow factor" or demonstrate a unique perspective of a common subject.
