Also, how do you look at individual votes of your own image at this point? I can only see the average. Thanks.

I am bummed. I really thought this one would do better than my last silhouette challenge last year. Now I wish my husband said he didn't like it and then I wouldn't have entered it. Well, I am not going to self DQ I will just take the hit. I hopefully will recover with my Free Study photo.

Pretty sure that you can only see the average until voting is over.

How can you self disqualify?

Was 4.7 last night at 10 votes. Looks like they're being a little kinder this morning. Even so, it's worth more IMHO. I better look for a 'boring mediocre' side challenge.

All ye unwashed masses with pathetic silhouette scores - no self-DQ'ing. I'm not gonna - you're not gonna either. TURN OFF SCORES! Or we could just see how freakin' many of us can come in under 5. :-)

Maybe we could just the whole challenge thrown out...

I just wanna know how to do it, I tried looking for it once but couldn't see anywhere?! I'm not DQ my entry teehee =)

I think it's too early to be talking about self DQ. My score was 6.0 to 4.7 to 5.1 currently. The first night is always the toughest in my opinion. And it is no indication on how your score will end up.

However, to those who voted mine below a 5...WACTH OUT!! LoL :P

I'm quite happy (especially after the nastiness that was the Closing Challenge). I had some issues w/ the colors/brightness and finally decided that this was the best try, even though the backround wasn't as saturated as I thought voters would like.

I can live with that! Hopefully it stays there or goes up, it'd be my 2nd 6+ score!

4.5 and contemplating my first ever self-DQ.

Y self dq because of your score?

I shouldn't. Just sometimes I get ticked off when I really shouldn't let it bother me. I'll let it ride. I'll turn off scores and have nothing more to do with the stupid thing until it resides permanently in my portfolio as a kindly reminder that I really should just sit out challenges once in awhile.

Some people will self-DQ to protect their average score or their reputation. I don't need to protect either of those. :-)

Ooops - remembered I did self-DQ once - I had improper grammar (in German) on my postcard entry and didn't want to offend with it so I pulled it. It actually was scoring well at the time, too.

Melethia....it's not the lowering of my average that would cause me to self-dq this shot. It's the fact that I really adore this shot and I cannot stomach having it at the low score it's getting. It's like putting your best homemade chocolate cake out, being proud of it and having to watch people say..."YUK" and shove the cake back across the table at you.

Don't get me wrong....I'm not one who has consistently seen high scores and this is just a slap in the face to me. I have NEVER reached a 6 in here and this one, I loved and had felt that even if it sat in the 5 range, I'd be happy.......but,.........4.1 ??????

I simply can't stand to see it downgraded so badly for my own personal reasons. After 42 challenge entries....I seem to keep coming back for more beatings when I'm doing so well in other sites. Perhaps, my style of photography is NOT for this site. And, I just don't want to allow this particular shot (out of the dozens, upon dozens of others) take the beating it's taking. :)

I can understand that. Check out my entry for Impressionism. Score sucked, but I love that shot for a number of reasons. I don't mind that score at all, since I realized it was not DPC-friendly. But I've had others that made me feel just the way you do now. I let them ride anyway. Every once in a great while, someone will see in it what you did and that'll make it all worth the pissed-off part about the score. But it's your call - if you do pull it, make sure you post it in your portfolio after the challenge.

You should see the score on mine on this challenge. I put alot of effort into making this shot to only get a 5.0 (which IMHO deserves a little higher). Unfortunately I danced too close to the border of being different and Im sure people get it, cant see it, or dont think its a silhoutte. I know what you mean about being proud of something and then get crappy scores, unfortunately not everyone has the same taste bleh. I need to stay away from those non-obvious photos.

I have crept up from a 4.5 which is now a little bit better than my last silhouette III challenge last year. If this keeps going I may make it into the 5s which I will be happy with. It definately doesn't deserve the 4s that is has been getting. I mean I have come a long way since the last silhouette challenge. At least I think so anyway.

The voters seem to be tough on this one. I expected to be in the mid-6 range and I'm sitting on a 6.0. Maybe the happy voters haven't come around yet?

I will never think about my entries in any challenge, i think i can't go above 6.5 [if i will reach oneday].

I should be happy as i live in a country with very few opportunities for photography, and there are many living there in the West or the East where the beauty all around and still didn't have much high scores themselves, i need to have more time in photography if i really need to do some arts or creativity works.

Jaime, that's my problem too! LOL I keep trying to "push boundaries" with my shots. I challenge myself to do something different and it works well in other sites. But, this is my style of photography and I guess I'm trying to fit a square peg in a round hole in here LOL!

For the most part, I've stuck to "traditional photography" and tried to do the "technically perfect" shot. Even those have gone nowhere. I have always stuck in the 5's range....which is fine....but, when I see my score down into the 4's range.....that really kind of makes me stick my head up and wonder if this is "right" for ME, personally.

You know, one of the things that truly bothers me, is the idea that when nothing can be "picked apart" with technical aspects in terms of photography, you (all of us) will end up with silly comments such as..."blood looks fake" or, "I would have preferred to see a red background rather than a blue" LOL! And, when you get really creative with your subject matter....hey, that doesn't fly either! My all time fave comment is..."title doesn't suit the picture"! ROFLMO! What? The shot deserves a 2 because you don't like the title?????? LOL

*SIGH*

Think I'm going sailing instead now and leaving the camera behind for a bit! LOL
