My 17% finish on the NG challenge is a new personal low but judging by the comments that I received, I really don't know why. I am guessing that people didn’t think it meet the challenge but that was never mentioned in the comments.

When I took this shot I was imagining that NG was doing an article on the digital camera revolution and had a side story about the dpchallenge weekly competition. I was documenting the DPC photographers “On Assignment”
I guess that was just too much of a stretch.

I wonder if I would have titled it “DPC’ers On Assignment” if it would have scored better or maybe the photo was really just that bad?

Hi Roger,
I thought you would have done much better, at least halfway,
But you can never tell how people will vote.
If its any consolation I thought it was a very good pic and scored you 8
Regards,
Paul.

I too got burned. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My angle for the NG article was "Bird Nests of the World". You can see my entry here.

I didn't get to vote or comment during the challenge but I would say it is the subject matter itself that affected the shot not necessarity the quality of the photo. I think most people think landscapes and animals when they think NG - so a shot of the animals these people were shooting probably would have done better.

you might be right that the title did have a bit of an affect - Digital Camera Revolution might have been a better choice to convey your intentions.

Hi Roger - while this is a good photograph I thought that it was a bit on the weak side with regards to it being in the NG challenge, I could not see it in a NG magazine myself Your portfolio and your track record speaks for itself.

Yea I think you are right. I went back through some of my old NG and I was surprised at the variety of subjects covered. The animal photo is just one segment, but the other photos need more contexts to make sense.

Not so for this challenge. A shot of the inside of a barn placed rather well. I just think the wow factor was to the roof on this challenge & the DPCers on assignment, IMO, didnt match up.

I expected to get burned during the NG challenge but I really liked the shot so I went for it.

What I love is one comment asking me if the horse is a Lippizan! He's not, he's an Arabian but when the Lippizan stallions were here in our town they did stay at Gale's stable: Gale's

They are so awesome up close and NICE! There are a few geldings in the group but mostly stallions and nice ones at that!

As for your shot rcrawford, I was your 9 vote, I loved it overall, the DOF, the subject matter, the idea of catching others in what we are so interested in.

In hind sight, you probably would've done stellar if you had shot the entire fishing shanty...NG is also about people and culture. Just a thought......

Check out some of the books by NG at Borders and found interesting subject matter like : gardens, cars, weddings, etc.

Roger, I gave it a 6 because it was a well done photo. As someone said before, I didn't see it in NG, but the photo was nice so I didn't shoot it down. I believe in credit where due, challenge topic or not. The Paint with Light has some of those where the photo really just didn’t hit the challenge, but it was really good, so I scored it that way. Go look at my camera iris shot score if you want to see a pitiful score. hahahaha
