Thought for sure this would place in the top three, but to my surprise it wasn't even in the top ten. This poor guy got robbed. I thought it was an excellent shot that fit in with the NG challenge perfectly.

I was very happy with my shot And then i got alot of comments that it was alittle "bland" . Then I saw it too, why din't i see it first. I did a little photoshop work and this is what i came up with...would it have made a differance?

I, also, think it's a beautiful capture and should have received a ribbon. There were many, many beautiful shots in this challenge, though.

Actually, if this one is the one that I felt was the better of the two flamingo shots - but the saturation needed to be brought up a bit as it was a little too pale.

What I can't believe is that the top 15 finished with a score above 7!! We're getting good here! ;-)

I was so happy with my score, above 7 for most of the week, then it went up to 7.1 something and I thought I'd be at least in the top 10... I really liked my photo, thought it would be at least in the top 10?!?

Everyone from 1 -14 you're too good, give me a chance the next time!

Was a personal best score so I'm still really happy, loads of comments which was good too!

Your photo was one of my favorites. I thought it would place higher, too. Mind you - not to piss any people off - but I scored most of the zoo animals quite low (on my own curve) and was very surprised when they placed so high. All of them are wonderful photographs, mind you - no slamming here at all - I was just looking for something that REALLY could be in NG and zoo animals don't qualify, in my own personal and possibly whacky opinion. To me a zebra, per se, is not NG just because he's a zebra. What makes that Zebra NG fodder is where and how he lives in his own habitat. I had no idea and tried to made a sort of NG statement with my photo but it scored very low so I must assume I am not atypical. Ergo, my opinion may or may not have value.

Anyway, I LOVED that photo and am mucho impressed with your eye.

C.

Edited to reflect that I am talking about brownt's photo.

My thought exactly!!! I'm really surprised. If I could vote this would have been my solid 10. It's definetly my favorite for the challenge.

I can't remember a challenge where I have given so many high grades. There were numerous photos of outstanding quality that I wasn't really surprised I ended (only) ninth with a 7.268:

Anyway most of the first twenty are very good (all IMHO of course :)); unfortunately some were luckier with the points than others. Still I think everyone that got an average higher than seven (perhaps even six?) can be proud on him/ herself. The competition was just too fierce :).

Some of my favourites ended a lot lower than I would have expected. Take for example this one:

place 32

and this one:

place 71

This was one of my favourite shots - good composition and I'd just watched Finding Nemo...

I loved taking part in this challenge. I think my Elephant Seal and pup came in around 33rd. It was an exciting photoshoot. If anyone would like to see more of the birthing sequence and other shots at Piedras Blancas Preserve near San Simeon, CA, I've just posted them here:

I'm sure there's an easier way to have posted that url - sorry about that.
