If you hadn't noticed yet, we updated the image pages on DPChallenge to include the gray left bar that you see most every where else around the site. Inside the the left bar, there will currently be one or two boxes that allow you to page through challenge results and user portfolios.

The site has desparately needed some links/buttons/images that allow the user to page through images. We mulled over a number of different options, and in the end, this format fit most of our needs. Be sure to note that you can page through an entire challenge without ever moving your mouse. Also, if you use the collapsing arrows on the top-right of the boxes, you can hide the challenge box and page through an entire user's portfolio the same way.

As always, let us know what you think about the new change and please alert us to any issues you see with it.

Edit: Don't crash our server trying to figure out how many degrees of separation your 1st entry is from your friend's 1st entry. :)

OMG, that is wild. It will feel a bit intrusive until I get used to seeing it there, but I agree it is a useful addition. Congrats!

Thanks Langdon, I like when you go through challenge results, how it allows you to jump from either challenge results in order of finish AND through the portfolio of the user. A whole new way to get lost in the site. :)

Very nice. Thanks Team! :)

Will take some getting used to not seeing the pics centered on the page. An idea would be make the new left bar closeup if the mouse moves out of that area, and have a pin button to pin it down so it doesn't close up.

Hmmmm, I must be a bit dense or I'm missing something. I don't see or maybe I don't understand what your talking about. Is it possible for someone to post a screenshot and point it out for those of us (me) that are a bit on the "slow" side. :)

Click on any image from the thumbnails on your profile page. Top left.

Click on a challenge (with results posted), click on an image. In the left column you will see the current image and the previous/next images in the sequence. They are numbered with the place number.

Hehe, the check boxes on the voting pages are AJAX, go use those! Seriously though, I'll consider adding some left/right arrow to page through the results (I'll use an iframe though just to mess with you ;)).

Nice work, Langdon!
Hey, is it possible to scroll through the thumbs in that left column? Say if you wanted to skip a few pics.

hehe, sorry. It's not really a valid complaint, I just like shiny new toys ;) New toys are cool, shiny ones are better :-D

Oh man, this is sweet. It will likely really raise the # of views for images outside the top 10.
09/05/2007 06:29:14 PM · #20
Oh!!!!! WOW.
You know what I love? That the images on the left are lightened. It isn't as distracting that way!

Yay thanks!

very cool, really like it, thanks sc,

Since its just new and possibly being tweaked...
Could it somehow be able to have it scroll through other unofficial galleries. Like the Browse by Options:Recently commented, uploaded, highest rated, commented, lowest rated, viewed. Also by Lens and Camera.
You could either have it in the preferences to choose which galleries to scroll through or as a box on the left with each option to click and have it display different galleries to choose. You could really open up all the content hidden in user's portfolios that way.
Just a thought.

Great job! Works great..except, would it be possible when you go into a gallery you have the same option to stay in the gallery. The only options when you open a pic are to view the photographers portfolio or challenge if it was in one.

Thanks for the hard work.

edit - not quick enough, but at least I wasn't the only one that noticed this. That means my medication is working OK. :-)
