Lars and the Real Girl PG13 (2007)
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou R (2004)

I give each one 4 stars, or 8/10. Entertaining, fun, funny, touching & a bit wierd. Good dialog & fine acting.

Just got back from "Traitor" with Don Cheadle. AMAZINGLY GOOD. Low-key, action when needed. Not preachy and not anti-US either. Just a good story about the complexities of the US, Islam, radicalism, the war on terror, etc.

Well done! 9/10.

Click 8/10

Great fun flick that also has a serious message. If you can tolerate Adam Sandler (I like him he cracks me up) you will enjoy the message this movie delivers. One of his best movies.

oh and Kate Beckinsale is SWEET!!!

The Lodger (1926) early Alfred Hitchcock - worth a look at developing genius.

My son asked me to take him to see The Longshots a couple weeks ago...

<yawn> I think it was about football, or something.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe. 7/10.

The movie felt more to me like a double episode than a film and as daft as this sounds, wasn't very 'X-Files-y'. There wasn't really anything paranormal going on, at least not enough for most fans of the show, I'd say. Wee bit disappointing on that note but still very enjoyable, though perhaps just more so for me since I'm a die-hard fan of the show.

Biggest flaw was that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny seem to have lost their old on-screen chemistry, perhaps from being apart so long as the duo. Ah well.

Never thought I'd see the day I'd agree on much of anything with you, brother!.....8>)

An excellent film! 10/10 from me.

One scene I particularly liked was when a comment was made about the one Muslim being a terrorist, he stated that back in the late 1700s, some people here in the English Colonies were pretty much acting as terrorists.

Interesting perspective, eh?

Just got back from seeing "W." with my wife. This is among THE worst movies I have ever seen in my life and I'm kicking myself for not bothering to read some reviews before pissing my money away on it. Keep in mind, I hate George W. Bush, but I hated this movie more and I'll be surprised if people on any point of the political spectrum like this much. It was just a bad biography of Bush's adult life that included a series of stupid Bush cliches strung together with popular Bush gaffes that are thrown in for good measure (and out of their original context). On top of that, there was a great deal of bad acting, unbelievable & over the top drama, well, you get the idea. This movie sucked like a Hoover.

Last week we saw Bill Mahr's Religulous and laughed our little butts off. First of all, we saw it in Ann Arbor with an audience that was very into the movie, so that atmosphere helped. Mahr Was his usual funny self (except for the very end where he gets over the top serious) and he has some very interesting discussions with people of various faiths about their religious beliefs. If your a fundamentalist/evangelical Christian I'm not so sure you'll enjoy this movie, but for the moderately religious and the non-religious this movie will give you a lot to laugh about.

Nights in Rodanthe

One of the most vapid movies I've ever seen. *yawn* There's two hours I'll never get back again.

Watched "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Sell-Outs... err.. Crystal Skull"

Can't give it any more than a 5/10. While enjoyable at times, it was just way, way, way over the top.

Body of Lies

7.5/10.

A total commercial flick, but the script was very interesting. Had it a little less of the dramatic Hollywood glam, I would have rated it an 8.5 may be. Still we had a lot of fun.

Thanks for the honest report JMart. I wouldn't spend a dime on a Stone movie.
However, when a Biden spoof comes out, I'd like to see it! Lord knows the main networks don't show us his gaffs!

Heavenly Creatures: 7.5/10

An 8 doesn't seem quite right for this. Its a good movie, but let down in parts by fairly weak direction (even though its a peter jackson film) and some not-so-convincing acting in parts that resemble a late 80s sit-com as oppose to a feature film.

Having said that, the majority of the movie is well shot and well put together and Kate Winslet turns in a very good solid performance as one of the accomplices to the main plotline, which is the murder of the mother of one of the girls. The murder scene itself is brutal, frightening and fairly grisly in its enactment, but this is in keeping with the truth of the story as it took 45 seperate blows to finally complete the murder. Mercifuuly, not all the blows are shown but its definately still a harrowing moment.

SO overall, a good movie, not a great one and not one you can put on at any time to watch but still done well enough to warrant a rental if you're interested. ANd it has a special place in Kiwiana as being one of the most high profile murder cases of all time, and also the odd record of being solved within 24 hours due to one of the girls keeping a diary (what a dumbass).

Well, along those lines you might find one of John Stewart's latest segments funny: the Gaffe-In. He pokesfun at gaffes from Biden, Kerry, Murtha, Palin and McCain. The Kerry gaffe & subsequent (& characteristic) digging himself deeper is particularly funny and McCain's gaffe, well, it's an innocent one, but I've never heard him so awkwardly backpedal like that before.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- 5/10
- Really poorly done. What a disappointment. The car chase scene through the jungle was terrible: not just nonsensical but poorly paced as well. Redeeming factor(s): Cate Blanchett looked wicked!

The Happening -- 5/10
- Scary, promising start, then just illogical -- and pointlessly, laughably graphic as well. Redeeming factor(s): odd Betty Buckley; and the shot of men falling (which was shown in the tv ads, unfortunately).

High School Musical 3, for a kid or teen, 9/10, for a parent along for the trip, 3/10 While its a fine movie it contains nothing as a nod to the inevitable parents that will be there unlike many kids movies that are peppered with insinuations and jokes for the parents. Also was surprised that there were more than a few "flashes" of female undergarments and a lot of cleavage and short skirts, muscular arms and ripped abs for a Disney film(believe me I'm not complaining) so at least there is some eye candy for parents of both sexes.

The Happening- Ummm 4/10

The Fall 5/10

I fell asleep. Great story but poorly executed and I think this is the first time ever that I say this about a kid, I didn't like that little girl's acting at all. It looked like she was just doing the motions but understood nada. Weird. I understand the director wanted this improvisational way of acting but, for me, it failed miserably.

Traffic 6/10

I do not like Catherine Zeta Jones as a person and even less as an actress. Good ensemble of actors though.

Incredible Hulk 6/10

Luckily Edward Norton was in this and that's probably the only reason I watched it. This one was way better than the last one with the Bana(?) guy in it but was lacking something. Hulk is for kids, I wouldn't call it adult entertainment at all. I like the fact that Ironman was in there at the end, makes for an interesting scenario for upcoming movies.

Star Wars: Clone Wars.
