I did the remote test with my DiMAGE and it worked. I got the filter but haven't had the chance yet to try it out.

Check Ritz Camera for the filter.

Simply take an IR remote, point it at your camera and if you see a light being emitted from the remote, your camera is IR sensitive. Some are more sensitive than others, so exposure will vary.

I believe that the 10D is not IR sensitive, but I'm not sure about the 300D.

I bought the Hoya R72 and shot this with my G5.

will give it a try, and see for the 300d...

EDIT: doesnt seem to be, although i am kind if surprised it isnt.
i'll have to try one at the shop next time i go in..
got to return a filter anyway

I was just going by some sites I have seen while researching the 10D. It depends on how much IR is blocked by the hot mirror and how sensitive the CCD or CMOS sensor is to begin with.

Evidently, there are some people who will open up their cameras and replace the hot mirror with a piece of glass to increase the camera's sensitivity to IR. They are really in love with IR, because the colors get all screwy for regular photos. For the regular schmo, as long as the remote shows up on your camera, you are good to go, just bring a tripod. The filter eats about 7-10 stops

I left a comment on a recent IR shot taken with a 10D. It looked strikingly like the shots I used to take with my Olympus C3000, which wasn't that great. My camera could not properly focus, ever. I thought it was something I was doing. I took the camera strap off, lens cap holder, everything I could to ensure that the camera was not moving due to anything swinging. The only way I could take a picture that was even reasonably in focus was to set the camera on the tripod, without the filter, get the camera focused into what I was shooting, drop it into manual focus, screw the filter on and hope like hell it came out. They came out okay. My Olympus C5050 takes really nice IR shots. Try //www.2filter.com for the filter. Most of the smaller ones are 37.33 USD.

Yes, but I believe that Sony limited the fastest shutter speed to 1/60 with NightShot on because there was some fear the certain fabrics would become transparent when viewed in bright sunlight with it engaged.

That's great, I used my CANON10D to try to get IR pictures, the remote control was OK, but I can't have a correct IR picture with different white balance settings (HOYA R72), I bough a second hand canon G3 to do the job and it works great !!! I use it as small portable camera when I need to travel light too... easy and simple to use but it's additional 400-500� with filters and adapters.

You can try the Photoshop actions on this page as a start. PEI Magazine had a tutorial on simulating IR in PS in the December 2001 issue (you can download the action at the bottom of this page). Fred Miranda also sells a "Digital Infrared Emulation" action.

The 7i doesn't take infrared filters/photos. I saw a magnificent photo done with the Dimage 7 and an infrared filter. It sealed my choice of purchasing the 7i. Went out first thing and purchased an infrared filter and discovered that you cannot use an infrared filter with the 7i. Hey, it's a wonderful camera otherwise :)
