We all love taking pictures and we all love looking at them. I don''t know about you all but I go shooting at least 3-4 times a week. How about we post a link to our picture here?

I shoot almost daily. Most all of my photos are stored on Webshots (the good and the bad).

Well when hockey season was in full swing I was taking pictures very often. Now I have a day or two a week that I go take pics. They are often not worthy and are more interesting to myself than anyone else. I updated my photogallery maybe a week or 2 ago (link is in my signature).

I have a question about the hockey pictures - do they ever give you any trouble about bringing a camera in the rink? I'd like to take some shots at a couple Penguins games next season (with the way they have been playing, A and B level tickets are a dime a dozen I believe). Do you recommend any settings for the camera to get the best exposures?

As far as taking pictures at a sporting event, there are all sorts of legal answers that I'm sure different people can give you. Some will say that you can, some that you can't. The best answer, however, is to call the stadium you intend to shoot at and ask for their rules regarding photography at the game.
Usually, if the camera hasn't got a super long pro-telephoto on it that would get in the way of other spectators, they'll say yes and then you can avoid the whole security person wanting to confiscate your camera thing that I've read about on other websites....

If you read Patella's reply he's got the best answer. I'll give you an example to support his answer. Down here in South Florida I can walk into the National Car Rental Center for a Florida Panthers hockey game with my Olympus C-3030 and a 2x Telephoto lens attached. The the depth dimension of the camera (from back to tip of lens) is about 5"-6". I went up to Tampa Bay to go watch the Lightning play (same sport, same league different arena) and they would not let me in with my telephoto lens. They told me as long as I took the lens off and returned it to my car they would let me in.
As for settings, it depeneds on how well lit your arena is. Since I'm not affiliated with the AP I don't get the cool attachment to the buildings flash system (I've had a photo ruined by these bastards! :)) I have to stick to f2.8, ISO 400, EV +2. I'd like to take all the photos in 1/400 but my pictures end up too dark (even with all those other settings) so I end up using 1/250 or 1/320 and just track the players to get them in focus. If you have an EXIF reader you can check the settings on the pictures in my gallery, they were all edited with PhotoImpact (before I learned how to use Photoshop well enough) so all that information is intact.

Just got to share this shot with everybody. I have set up a bird feeder so I can get some close up shots of them rascles. This particular one was taken Staruday and really has me excited. Remember, I am a newbie so doesn''t take much to get me excited.

I have this exact same photo of my wife and I, at the exact same place. As I recall, that was pretty out of the way, to.
I'm going to try and dig it up and scan it in. (This was from pre-digital days.)

Heh - I never claimed much in the way of originality :) It is about the only high point in that area to take shots like that from, at the top of a small wooden viewing platform. The area is so beautiful that I'm thinking of moving there...

Gordon, I recommend the SF Bay Area highly, but bring lots of money.

Back to the "photos by kids" thing -- I was really surprised today. We were taking team photos for our softball team. We've always just done group shot, bu this time I wanted individual photos as well. Since I was busy, Isaac (5) asked if he could shoot some, so he walked around and took these.
He only shot about 9-10 frames to get these... I've decided not to create his own account here since he can't read and I still do the adjusting and uploading and fill in the form fields, but if anyone has time to cruise over to pBase and check them out, I'd be curious for your comments, since I'm completely biased (and not overqualified as a photography critic either).
Isaac's Photos are here; click on the gallery wih the Tshirt logo to see today's "candid" portraiture, on the orange fungus to see some of his earlier shots.
These shots (the portraits) have been resized but NOT cropped at all. I did some minor tone curve adjustment, but no other processing. |

It doesn't take much to excite me either. I love your photo. Beautiful bird. I was sitting in my yard for about an hour and a half trying to get a picture of a momma robin feeding her young. I didn't get it. :( I did get a shot of the baby by itself.
Hopefully this will work.

Maybe its time to get him his own account here..... I do not think that having a parent fill out the forms would be considered cheating. My daughter is 7, so she can read and does most of her own processing but I do not feel that what you would have to do for him is unreasonable. Just my humble opinion. |

Okay. I missed the shadows challenge (food poisoning!), but as I was driving along today, I glanced into the woods to see some beautiful shadows and light playing against the trees and forest floor. May not be great, but I enjoyed it. Let me know what you think anyway, would ya?
