First let me say I am glad people are able to fund their hobby or profession that they are passionate about but from someone that can't hardly fund everyday necessities, how do most of you find a way to fund such nice equipment.
I need the secret! :) |

I sell some stock photo's, that also helps me pay for other stuff on ebay, my stock payments go into paypals and I buy on ebay from paypal sellers :).

| Stock. Its paid for most of my lenses, and I have enough sitting at shutterstock at the moment for a nice new 40D! |

I sell drugs... I use others needs to pay for my own....
But seriously though, I normally take a loan from my bank or 401k. Sometimes I have enough in the stock market to get what I want. Sometimes it just happens to be credit and repay......

I took an unsercured loan for that one.... So they didnt know what I was buying... But you should have seen the look on the cashiers face when I told her I was planning to do professional photography with it :) |

Loan(s) out of the question for me. I owe to many doctor and hospital bills that I having to pay on.
401k out of the question for me. No job due to disability means no 401k plan. I had to use my acquired 401k when I lost my job almost 4 years ago.
Stock sites out of question, not camera at this time.
Guess I'm out of luck for a while. :(
I will get my 350d back soon (hopefully) and/or purchase a new camera, whenever that maybe.

Well not really if you have old images that you could edit and submit.
I started by using my challenge out takes and I have been away from any serious photography for 12 months or more but I keep getting paid for my stock images :). Kinda like writing a book, do it once and gather the royalty payments every time it sells.

My hobby(habit) is being funded by busting my butt working 3 jobs. I work a 40 hour job during the week(4 10 hour days) I work as a stringer for the local newspaper, and I do computer repairs/builds that I do in my "spare" time. Its all a matter of how bad do I want/need that next item to fill my camera bag.

Oops. Forgot to mention the funding part. :) I've had some success recently doing some reselling on eBay. Find the bargains, then turn them around to make a few bucks.

I sell trees. I have two nurseries full of trees and when business is normal (not slow like now) I go into "overtime mode" and sell extra trees.
Example:
22 palms or flowering trees at wholesale price equals a D300.
7 palms or flowering trees planted at retail price equals a D300.
Sounds simple (not always). Now that Nikon has announced two new cameras and five new lenses (oooooh, 24-70 f2.8) it's time to get to work. |

I'm "show photographer" for our local dressage/eventing association. We have 4 shows a year and I shoot between my classes (that's why I called my little side business "Between Rounds Equine Photography".) I usually make $200-$300 per show. I don't charge a whole lot-$5 for a 4x6, $7 for a 5x7 and $10 for an 8x10. I do a little bit of photoshop to fix color and develop them at Wal-Mart.

I remember those days. 80+ hours a week, meeting, travel arrive at work at 7:00 am get home around 10:00 pm at night. Loved my career even with the long hours. Would love to be able to do that again. I'm 42 and began working when I was 15, only being out of work 30 days until August 2000 when I began getting sick and finally having to resign in March 2004. |
