Adine,
I agree with you on both parts. I really don't mind if I don't win a ribbon I just like to see what the people think. I guess if they really spend some time on my photo and think about the challenge details they will eventually get it!

I guess the best thing to do when we have a good idea that is "outside the box" sprung from the idea of the theme is to share it right here and get a critque on it. Right now, as a beginner, that is all I am looking for. Some know how and some ideas. So to take the majority shot and learn how the mass consensus feels via the vote, and take the "creative" shot and inspire people here on the forums. Granted, both have to be creative. But the best ideas I get are a spin off of the challenge, which, unfortantely, may not be taken/ critiqued as seriously.

I, for one, am happy and would be honored to see some of the more creative ideas and share my feedback. I don't know a whole lot about photography, but I do have an opinion of styles that I like. Which is what we all have in common and from which we can all learn from. So, if anyone has a shot, like mine, that doesn't really fit the challenge, but wants some feedback on it - feel free to ask my opinion.

I really appreciate all the feedback I got for this dragon pic.

i was wondering if the chinese zodiac would apply, but the rules are so specific "one of these signs", so i figured not. glad others wondered too. i will definitely not take points away if someone does something other than what was stated. i know there will be people who will because sticklers abound on here.

Most challenge topics have been suggested by members. It's too bad we overlooked the opportunity to coordinate with Chinese New Year -- but I don't think it was deliberate, and I'm guessing there's a good chance we'd see it next year. We don't really have a discussion about the topics beforehand (would give SC members a perceived advantage if we knew the topic a week ahead) so we couldn't change/expand it either, and we're trying to not change the challenge once it starts.

General, what about a painted with light challenge for us registered users?

i vote high on pictures that
A) are creative in representing the challenge
B) aesthetically pleasing (color,comp & overall feeling)
C) something that I would put in a frame and hang on my wall
but that is just me.......
What I don't understand is some poeple are using photos that are nice and worthy of praise BUT have absolutely nothing to do with the challenge. I couldn't believe some of the random photos that were voted in the upper 50 for POV. Does anyone else think this...or am I just ranting?

One of the great things about DPC is to take a technique you learn because of one challenge, and then apply it in another challenge.

We recently had a Lighting Challenge where several people used variations of this technique, including (sort-of) myself:
