So at the local goodwill there was a Philips 7ff1 Digital Picture frame. It was sitting there for $20 and i didnt think nothing of it, thinking it was some low quality piece of junk. well after 3 weeks of it sitting in the case hidden under a cupple of purses. noone even knew it was there, and it was blue week, so out of ceriousity i askedto see it. sure enough it had a blue tag, i had to scoop it up, $10! for this beauty. it rocks, looked it up on Cnet they go for about $150 used and up to $300 brand new. i thought it was a well spent ten bucks. just goes to show you never know what you can find at goodwill:) expecially when people know nothing about what they are sellin.

I think he's calling the people at Goodwill stupid because they didn't know what they had.

Wow. Not too many people brag about ripping off a charity.

That was my thought as well.

BTW, Goodwill received the frame for free, so he didn't rip them off, no matter what he paid. :)

Not only that, but Goodwill would never have sold that frame had they charged what it was "worth". The people that tend to shop there (like myself) would NOT spend $150 on a camera (that may or may not work - no way to test it), much less $300.

The fact that no one else (other customers, the workers, managers, etc.) recognized the 'value' of the item simply speaks to the fact that a camera frame is not something that is going to appeal to the average shopper, especially when most of the average shoppers are not conversant with the 'value' of a frame.

I myself have found some really great 'steals' at Goodwill (and other thrift shops), and it has less to do with the fact that they are making $$$$ for themselves (or a charity or whathaveyou) and more to do with the fact that they get craploads of junk that they want to get rid of and hopefully profit from. They know that if they price something outside of their normal 'range', it's not going to sell, and then they have the expense of getting rid of it themselves or letting it sit around and eat up valuable storage space.

Ive scored a few rare band shirts at GW and managed to resell them for 10 times what I paid for it.

I believe the stupid person is the one who donated it to goodwill in the first place. Unless it was just a very generous donation. In which case the stupid tag does not apply.

I donate clothes to them all the time, but I've only been in ours once and it smelled like a dirty bathroom.

did you wash the clothes before you donated them? ;}

The Goodwill near my house is like a beautiful department store. I have found smokin' deals there on things that would normally be outrageously expensive.

saracat nailed it. Spoken like a true Goodwill Shopper!

Congrats on the digital picture frame, too!

I got my flash at what we over here quaintly call a charity shop for a whole pound - and i always go in and look to see if there's any more.

It's also more than possible that it was donated by family members after a death. Goodwill and the Salvation Army get a LOT of their donations from bereaved family members.

We donate valuable things to our local thrift shop from time to time. Often, it is an item that's valuable, but hard to find an actual buyer for. It's out of our house, we get the tax deduction, and the thrift shop gets something that's actually worth something. It's a win for everybody.

Anybody want an 1850's 3/4 size bed frame? A strange size, but easy to transport...it'll be going to the thrift shop next...
