I am planning on buying a new canon rebel. I have a 35mm. Can i use the same lens on a Digital Canon Slr Rebel from my 35mm?

Yup, all Canon EF/EF-S lenses will work on the Digital Rebels.

If its a Canon EOS camera / one that uses EF mount lenses... leading up to the fact if they are EF lenses then yes.

I use a 1991 Canon EOS Elan and use EF lenses made for both. But aftermarket Sigma's might no focus properly on the digitl. They arent licensed to use the canon communications protocal so they had to fake it. They can be rechipped but sigma has run out of chips for many older lenses.

In retrospect i also use alot of newer lenses on myne all the way up to some of the newer L's when someone lets me hold one.

Just out of curiousity, why the Canon when you have the D40? (other than the obvious fact that Canon is WAY better than Nikon :P)

Nikons are expendable. They don't want to risk shooting such fine pieces of equipment into space. Isn't the D2X cheaper than the 1D series? If so, that's probably why.

::::rolls eyes at never ending Nikon vs Canon debate :::::

They're both good cameras, but if you've already got Canon lenses that would be a good reason for going Canon. Plus, it's not like the Nikon D40 is all that. Haven't I read that not all Nikon lenses will work on it? Now, if he had a D80 or D200, we might want to start talking about maybe it would be worth his while to just start investing in Nikon glass.

Any lens that works on a D200 will work on a D40. The D40 lacks a focus motor, so you will only have auto-focus on AF-S lenses.

I have a canon 35mm aswell, and my new ef lenses don't work with it... It depends on what kind/year your 35mm is

It depends on the lenss system. All EF lenses will mont up and function. The only exception is aftermarket lenses that might not function due to older reverse enginerring.

FD lenses wont work although there is an adapter.
