I was working at a jobsite today replacing some insulated panels in a building and found this pepsi can, the panels have been in the building since it was built, late 60s early 70s I'm told, looked on ebay but didn't see any like it, anyone have any ideas what years this can was in circulation and more importantly if it has any value to it?

wow, very retro-cool man. That being said, I have no idea, have you done a gogle image search or checked the pepsi site although I doubt you'll find anything there). Try looking at other old cans or pepsi products for sale like that, I dunno.

I looked at a Pepsi collector site and the can is pre-1963. They changed the logo in 1963. Didn't find that can though.

EDIT: Looks 1950-1963.

EDIT2: Here's a different site, no dates or prices but it might help you get a price somewhere else maybe.

I wouldn't think it was aluminum with the rust spots and the seam but I could be wrong...really cool find though.

going off the info from TechnoShroom above and this site...1962 when the first pull tabs were made, I would guess it is a 1962 or 63 can depending on when the logo changed.

Reminds me of a boom-lift truck I used back in the 70's at a hardware store. Had a friggin sinister rattle in the left door. Owner got so mad about it one day he disassembled the door. Found a Pepsi bottle, baked bean can, wrappers, plastic utensils, and used napkins inside the door. Apparently at the GM factory the employee took a lunch break and sealed the trash in the door!

It is most definitely not aluminum, it was Prepared by Pepsi Cola Bottling Co, Oskaloosa, Ia 52577, I didn't see that one on TechnoShrooms site, it may only list companies still in operation though and if nothing else it's turned out to be a fine conversation piece. thanks for the help guys.

That is not aluminum. That can is probably from around 1965-70 not long after that they started using aluminum cans. The first of the many designs had 2 punch holes on the top of the can one to pour other to allow air into the can. That proved to be very dangerous however as kids were getting their fingers and thumbs stuck in the holes as well as cuts.

Is there any info on the side of the can as to where it was packaged ? We have a huge pepsi plant here I know a few people that work there. I am sure one of them can help figure this out pretty fast if they know where the can was filled.

That logo was used from 1950 - 1962. The pull off tab was invented in 1962. The can you found was manufactured in 1962.

Did you see if there was a couple drops left in the bottom that you could scrape out and taste?

That should be "good" news, since that model can was only made for one year.

That is good news, that would also explain why I didn't see any on ebay, also has me thinking to myself, what if I have the only one left in existence? Ha not a chance that I could be that lucky.

I have a friend who is an extremely serious Pepsi collector (his last name is Koehler -- nearly pronounced "Cola," and they named their dog "Peppi"). I PM'd you contact information. I'm sure he'd be able to give you more information about it than you ever dared ask for :)

I wouldn't be surprised if he'd be interested in buying it, if it's a rare item.

Mike - according to the latest guidebook that can is from the 1950s
and can go for as high as $15 depending on condition.

Thanks again Alan

How can it be from the 50's with that pull-tab top? I'm pretty sure the earlier poster was right about that being invented in the early 1960's -- I still remember using a "church key" to open cans with one end, and remove crown bottle-caps (before twist-offs) with the other.
