This impression of a large Douglas fir tree resulted from panning the camera up the trunk -- it took a fair number of tries to get a smooth result and reasonable exposure.

This is really awesome! Until you start trying to do blurry photography, you don't realize how difficult it really is to get it looking like art instead of a mess, do you? This is truly art! Fantastic job!

Thank you Sandy. I was especially happy with how this looked right out of the camera. Since the initial post, I have finally become a paid member and have uploaded the image to my DPC portfolio (in part triggered by your message making me realize how nice it is to see comments on submissions). Thanks for giving me the extra energy to do it.

I would have to agree this is one of the most interesting side projects/challenges/thingies in which I have been involved. More discussion in the thread, lots of thought behind both images and comments, and honestly, some really, really, really stand-out work here. Delightful.

Today's images (taken today, of all things), and I couldn't decide which fit the spirit of the challenge more, and I liked them both, so here they are. More description of why in the first image (consider that a spoiler warning for people who like to judge the image first without photographer background; skip the descriptive bit if that's the case):

Trampled, Take I

Trampled, Take II

Enjoying this thoroughly (though, apologies in advance, Lesley, I see at least one blurry flower in my future, and probably more . . . ). I'll save searching through old shots to rescue when I get back to my main photo storage after the 23rd of August; until then I'll likely be shooting for the challenge!

Best,

Rob

Life got in the way of photography, so I'm a tad late starting. I'm also a tad bit concerned that I've not grasped the idea. But time will tell.

Trying some full on blur shots. everything I've done so far has had some area of focus. these don't. and of course therefore I don't like them.. :/ but I'm learning, right?

day 4 - from my first assignment for the newspaper! It was easier to get blur shots than sharp ones in the light in there...

I'm starting to see some cool patterns emerge after just 4 days:

Multiple appendages on people and animals
Headless creatures running amok in the world
Killer abstract images worthy of gallery walls

Feel free to add to this list. Keep it up folks. This truly is the most fun I've had looking and doing in a side-challenge.

You're welcome. Here's an example where I used that technique:
