I would love to hear from some people why they think some of these images work and perhaps why some don't.

There's a lot of great images popping up but like Melethia said some seem to me like blurry pictures. It's hard to nail down in some cases why some that have been posted really work and why others don't.

You could start :-)

I think this thread is open for discussion as well as posting. Also, I've gotten some great comments directly on the images I've posted, where they are part of the photo's permanent record (unlike this thread, which will almost certainly fade away someday).

I tried a few more of these (in a different place), but only 2 turned out looking like anything other than a blurry picture. Not sure which one I like better. For now (and this will be my Sunday submission, lol) I choose this one. I like the streaky lines and the contrast of the sunlit leaves.

This impression of a large Douglas fir tree resulted from panning the camera up the trunk -- it took a fair number of tries to get a smooth result and reasonable exposure.

Welcome to DPC! :)

You know, if you had not said that this was panning, I had thought it was raining in this image. :)

Apologies for starting late (and for being cheeky in at least one of my processing descriptions), but I was getting ready to travel (the first) while my car was still in the shop, then traveling (car being finished and getting me the 1.5 hours to the airport), and then (today) settling in a bit. Now I'm here, should be here regularly (including commenting, of which I have so far done zero).

Day 1 - Ball

Day 2 - Berries

Day 3 - Bird and Rainbow

I'm going to shoot for this project tomorrow with my "new" M42 mount (won't focus to infinity on a Nikon) Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135mm f/3.5, which I specifically bought because it's legendary . . . sharpness :)

Best,

Rob

Have been trying to make the comments round, wow, am only on page four of the thread. My fingers are tired! :D

So, am giving comments a break and finally adding my day 2. Hadn't even got it to the thread yet and have had some comments. Thanks ladies! Appreciated. :)

A humble request:

If a shot does NOT work for you, please don't be shy about saying so. The point of this, other than to have a blast not focusing and smearing vaseline on UV filters, is to learn a bit about what makes for a good not-sharply-focused picture. And yes, I realize it's a matter of taste - always is! But if something doesn't strike you as anything more than a blurry picture, say so (but do it kindly.) In other words, I don't want to be the only one that's saying so.... :-)

guilty.... :P I'll try, but I don't want to seem like a B**ch. Even critical comments from me are NEVER intended to be mean. just know that guys...and gals. I don't want anyone to be discouraged from thier path because of something I said. I want to further creativity and passion not kill it. and I know that some people I speak to off of DPC get VERY discouraged when a shot isn't appreciated by others the way they appreciate it. also I don't know anything about blur. it's new territory so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Well said, Crystal. I always try to get out of my own "box" and try to appreciate the photographer's perspective -- to try to see what they see. So, I don't give too many unappreciative comments because usually I can genuinely appreciate something of what the photographer appreciated. And I know NOTHING about blurry photography, and plan to learn everything I know here in this thread.

In regard to Melethia's suggestion, I'm by no means an ass kisser, but for the most part, I'm attuned to this blur thing and I'm finding some really interesting things about most of the images. Not all but most. If something doesn't strike me - I don't think saying "oh it just looks like a blur" is really going to do anything. Instead, someone who does like it might say something that will make me think "oh yeah, I didn't see it that way, or I didn't think of that."

Ok, Deb. Put one up and I'll rip it to shreds. ROFL (just kidding)

I'm going away next week and will be gone for almost two weeks, so just trying to get a few extra ones in before I go, hope y'all don't mind. : )

I am enjoying looking thru the images in this challenge, as it makes me think about a different aspect of getting images that have impact.
I will try to get some comments out as soon as time allows.
