So I'm really happy to be visiting Las Vegas, 17th (Friday)and 18th (Saturday) August. I will have 1 1/2 days there after travelling up from San Diego next month, going through Joshua Tree and Mojave NPs (really looking forward to this!).

However, I've been let down by my friend who was going to go with me. So now I'm travelling by myself and was wondering if there is anyone in Vegas who would like to go take a few shots with me? I'm planning on spending most time on the Strip, but would have no problem on moving on from there after 1 walk past, if you have any suggestions to go somewhere else.

I go there 2 to 3 times a year. There is so much to see and if you are going to spend most of you time on the strip, you will not run out of things to photograph. Hope you find a local to go with. I would help you if I was there. Have fun!

That's where I'm from. If you get a chance, try to check out the sign graveyard where they have all the old Vegas signs. I have never been there, but I know a lot of photographers find that place like heaven. You should be able to find a phone # on the internet. Also, if you're into "street" photography try going to some of the lesser known places on the "strip" down by Freemont street during the day. That's where the courthouses are along with some lower-end but classic casinos. People often forget that part of "old Las Vegas" It can get kind of sketchy, but with the right eye and a bit of luck you can get some really amazing edgy shots. Have fun - I love Vegas!!

Thanks for all the tips. I really can't express how much I'm looking forward to this trip! I'll check out the Jumbo Rocks, but I'm limited to how far I will go on a trail (I like hiking, but not hiking alone in a desert I've never been to!)

it's been 11 or 12 years since I've been there, it'd be cool but i just don't have any extra money. Hope you find somebody!

ugh! Joshua Tree is amazing! Be sure to get to the wonderland of rocks! Its like a field day there! I did not find the strip as inspiring but I'm not that into architecture and I'm not brazen enough to shoot random fold easily.

The insides to me are more interesting than the outsides but be weary... they aren't too keen on you photographing the casinos. I got "warned" about "some people not wanting to be photographed here". LOL!

Old Vegas is cool, as has been mentioned! I didn't get to spend much time there.

It's pretty even during mid-day. (polarizer muchly needed)

You'll be more limited by the weather rather than your knowledge of the location.

I'll be in Vegas Sept 12-17 for a conference, will be free the whole day on the 13th and the evenings only the other days. Anyone wanna GTG for shooting some pretty pitchers?
