In response to the valid concerns raised here, we have decided to add a "Personal Life" section to the forums, to be listed in the "Other" category. In order to provide a minimal level of protection from Google spidering, this section will be visible only when logged in to DPChallenge. It is important to remember, however, that this does NOT prevent anyone from creating a DPChallenge account and using the forum search or other site features to locate material you have posted. We remind you to keep common sense in mind when posting, and remember that any material you wish to keep truly private should not be posted on the Internet at all.

Once Langdon has created the new forum section, we will move currently-active threads to this section as appropriate. Please allow us some time to do this, but after about noon or so, server time, if you see an active thread which should be moved to this new section, please click "report post" on the first post in the thread to call it to our attention (a short note like "personal life" or "move to personal life" is fine). Please do NOT report dormant threads.

We recognize that photography is central DPChallenge, but also that the forums have been a key part of our evolution beyond "just another photography resource" and into a true community, with a passion for photography as the common trait that brings us all together.

In the forum description, 'soething' needs to have an 'm' inserted.

It's nice to be part of a site that listens to its members :-)

It's almost amusing to watch the section fill up with the personal threads. Just reading the titles is depressing me.

Agree. Well done! Will it be "ignorable" like the Rant forum? I've seen some posts that would seem to indicate some on the site would choose to ignore the forum altogether. More efficient than ignoring threads individually.

All forum sections can be turned off in the forum filter, excepts for Admin Announcements.

Someone asks that personal stuff be kept off the site, and a new forum is created for personal stuff.

I'd like to officially ask that under no circumstances will challenge image size limits be raised to 720x.

Thanks in advance, I'm off to upsize.

Oh my gosh.
It's called a COMPROMISE.
Yes the original poster asked that it be kept off the site but a new forum makes it easy to ignore not ALL general discussion but just the stuff that there was a problem with.

The sense of the entire thread (and not just the original post), is that, while the posts asks the membership to exercise some self-restraint, there's really no way to enforce that -- at least, not that doesn't create more problems than it solves. Some people want to have this type of thread, and some don't, so there was a fairly broad consensus that a new forum section way the way to go. That way, those who don't want to see this type of post can turn off the folder. Those who do can post away.

FWIW, we probably DON'T want to create a forum section titled TMI for this thread.

One of the rejected description ideas for the new section was "Too much information? Post it here anyway!"
