What mode are you in? Can you provide details?

Do you have it on manual focus or automatic focus?
01/13/2004 05:43:22 PM · #4
... or do you have it on Macro setting (the little flower symbol)?
01/13/2004 05:46:06 PM · #5
it does it in any mode. i don't have macro mode set, and autofocus is on.

if you are on autofocus try it in manual focus. If the photo come clear then there are chances that your auto focus is defect

Make sure you turn macro OFF via the control button >.

Do you mean all your photos look blurry after you have downloaded them to your computer and you are viewing them? Then maybe you are zooming in and enlarging the image too much. Or do you mean the images in the viewfinder do not look in focus when you are taking the photo? Maybe you are not used to the electronic viewfinder. Are you taking a photo of something close that requires the Macro mode? We really need some more details, please.

DSC-F717 Cyber-shot® Digital Still Camera Focus Issue
Posted: October 31st, 2002

Initial production of Sony’s DSC-F717 Cyber-shot® digital still cameras have displayed inaccurate focusing under certain limited conditions. These conditions include ambient light low enough to activate the Hologram AF, at short distances, and higher zoom settings.

In order to determine whether or not your DSC-F717 has the issue, please check the following:

The Camera is a DSC-F717
The camera serial number falls into the below range:
1320001-1320404
1320407
1320409-1320422
1320424-1320425
1320427-1320430
1320432
1320434-1320440
1320442-1320463
1320465-1320468
1320470-1334250
1334801-1334900
1335251-1337694
1337883-1338610
1339051-1339550
Images are out of focus when using Hologram AF, typically, but not limited to, short distances and higher zoom settings. This issue will not occur with Hologram AF selected "off".
If your camera does meet the above criteria, please contact Sony to arrange for service. The inaccurate focus is the result of an improper Hologram AF focus parameter. The parameter can be adjusted by Sony Service Centers or Sony Authorized Service Centers in accordance with Sony’s limited warranty.
Sony is providing express pick-up and return shipment service for these cameras to correct this focus issue. Please contact the Sony Customer Information Services Center for further assistance at 1-888-449-7669.

Note: The serial numbers listed here refer to the very first generation of 717s.

my camera is a late model SN#. only photos in which i zoomed in are blurry. land scapes mostly. they look fine on the camera's screen, but when i DL them to the computer they are blurry. and no it's not camera shake, i tried a tripod with timer. so there's no chance of camera shake.

Set your image size on one of the 2 largest. Also, either turn off the digital zoom or use it only when you absolutely must.

i never use digital zoom, and i drag and drop the images from the camera to the harddrive. and i always shoot at maximum resolution. i'm not a twit folks, simply asking if anyone has or has heard of this problem.

Now I know only a twit would drop or bang a camera against something, so I'm not going to ask.

I think oksamit gave a great link.
Maybe a example. A photo. Is it a brand new camera, or just something that popped up after you have owned it for awhile.

I'm stumped, 'dillo. You may have to send it in, via a dealer perhaps?

What have you got your EVF and TFT set to - just been to SA and needed to change mine from normal to bright - have noticed that a couple of pics were incorrectly focussed but could not see that on the EVF nor the TFT. That might be your solution?
