| I use a Canon 30d and shoot in RAW -- I use the included DPP to convert because I don't yet have PS CS3, I use PS 7. Anyways, I convert to 8 bit TIFF files, but what DPI do you all recommend. The default is 350 dpi. Thanks for any help. |

| The DPI is irrelevant until you go to make a physical print. At that point you might want to change the DPI (without resampling) to match the printing device so you can see how big it will be. |

To expand on GeneralE's response, the important factor in your pictures is the total image dimensions, which would be something like 3500x2300 for your 30D. If you print one of those images at 350dpi, it will be a much smaller picture than if you print it at 150 dpi, but both would still have the same number of total pixels.

Also, you want to be converting to 16-bit TIFF out of RAW. You want to do your curves, levels, and color adjustments in 16-bit before changing to 8-bit. There's MUCH more information in 16-bit, and the quality of the image will be noticeably better, at least as far as printing goes, though the difference may not show up in DPC web-display images.

| Does PS 7 work with 16 bit images? I know I've gotten errors when I've tried 16 bit images, but do curves, levels, etc. work ok with 16 bit in PS 7? |

Yes. A lot (most) of the filters don't, and you can't dodge and burn, but the basic adjustments all work and it is best to do those in 16-bit mode, at least for any image destined for printing at any largish size.
