may not have been the topic but I can see all those yellow boarders now. It will look like the magazine challenge revisited.

But while I am here I predict there will be

1 first place winner
2 baby photos
3 macros of flowers
4 photos posted prior to the challenge with no regaurd to others who might be considering a similar photo for the challenge.

oh and no less than 2 threads about the challenge (oh there already are 2 threads going about this challenge) Wow I am good! See that prediction is already coming true =o)

Has there EVER been a challenge without a landscape or flower shot? I get so tired of seeing them sometimes.

I wonder if you would ever see an oil stain driveway picture in NG?

LOL, well I'm hoping to also see the 5 to 7 pictures of topless natives picking berries on the plains of Africa. When I was a kid we were always sneaking peeks at Dad's National Geogrpahic mags. :)

Calvus, I'm thinking the "opposite" of your prediction for this challenge... I think it'll be more like 130 entries with a winner being around 6.8. The reason is, I don't think there will be stiff competition in this one where you will need a very high score to win... Gee, maybe I should enter this one? LOL. :)

The sad thing about this challenge is that the stereotype of 'national geographic' as naked tribeswomen and elephants is pretty far from the truth. So far in fact that the topic for a challenge is more misleading than most of the normal ones:

e.g., a quick search found 17 articles on parachuting, 11 on macro photography of semiconductors, 201 articles on oil, oil production and pollution, 501 on photography ( :) ), yet only 98 on tigers, 103 on elephants and 145 on dinosaurs...

So what is a 'national geographic' image ? This months cover is mars exploration, last month was supersonic military aircraft, may's edition features Mt Everest, mayfly macros and the Kentucky Derby...

So it's sorta like Maxim or Esquire without the hot chicks.

'yellow boarders' had me cracking up!! Oriental houseguests?
Perhaps the writer(s) meant borders?

cheers dears

For the same reason your spell-checker won't catch it -- it's still a legitimate word. Besides, if I was going to build a frame for my photo I'd probably use some boards ...

I was gonna post a baby photo, then changed my mind to a flower macro, but now I cant because someone mentioned them before the voting started. My idea is ruined *cry*

I couldn't really agree more. I hope people realize that National Geographic covers so much more than just Amazon photos, pictures of tribal-folk, and Jungle pitures with monkeys swinging in the vines. Really, where I am from, there really isn't anything like that, unless you go to the zoo.

What kind of ideas do you guys have?

I am sure there will be a perfect rose with perfect waterdrops. :-)
I think there will be beautiful photos, just as for Motivational Poster. I wanted to comment on the whole challenge, but exams suck, I couldn't. Maybe this time. :-)
