Hi all! Just getting a business card together - my Web site is being made as we speak! (But it's not up yet, sadly.)

Please let me know what you think of this layout - I'm not sure what to put under the name - it just seems empty. Tips, comments, suggestions always welcome! Keep in mind, these are just drafts! LOL. I'm not sure if these will be the photos I'll use or not - just experimenting!

Thanks!

How about posting a smaller image or a thumbnail link?

My advice is to look at them sized on your screen to business card size. The small B&W images will basically disappear and the color one will be small and very busy.

I suggest sticking with a simple 2-3 color graphic for your B-card and saving the actual photos for a larger postcard mailer/leave-behind.

i'd definately prefer the b&w one, but as spaz said the images will disappear on the size of a business card...
maybe just try a different order on the bw shots with only the 1st, 3rd and 5th shot, which i think are the most professional looking ones.

Great! Thanks for the comments! I really am just playing around, so this helps a lot. I've never put together a business card before so I need all the help I can get :)

Borders could get cut off unevenly by the printing company. It's best to avoid using them for business cards.

My guess is that when you shrink it down to actual size, some or most of your text will get lost in the image and be too hard to read. The email is already a little hard to see in this blown up version.

As pretty as the butterfly pic is, the text is a poor selection for readability in my opinion.
The Capital letter shadows make it even worse.
Clean, legible, easy on the eyes is a must with a business card.
Your black & white is far better, just need a touch of levels editing in the two center pics themselves.

try to size them down to 290 to 190 pixels, that will give you the approximate size of a business card.

as you can see in the design of my (also first) business card, i did like 2 weeks ago, you can hardely read the letters at that size...

I was thinking it would be sad if mc'donalds sued you and they won

There's a German beer named Budweiser that is being sued by Anheuser-Busch to get them to stop using the name. Never mind that the German version has had the same name for 400 or so years and that the urinal filler that Anheuser-Busch brews in the US isn't even allowed to be sold as beer in Germany.

You may also want to consider putting your name only on the front and printing the rest of your info on the back of the card. It's really cheap to do double sided cards and lets people see your image and your name proudly displayed without the card looking too busy.

Thanks again everyone! These are very helpful tips.

Plus I would hate it if McDonald's did sue me! Oh boy - what a bummer that would be - well it is my last name for pete's sake!

LOL!

Not to beat a dead horse but I am bothered by the fact that you have a website: PhotosByMcDonald.ocm; but use a hotmail email address. It would look more professional if you used an email address associated with your domain name. JMO.

Here's an idea. Not perfect, as is but you can rearrange the text in black to suit yourself. I think it's easier to read over the solid color. Experiment with different colors. Might look cool.

Well I'll throw in my 2 cents here.

Business cards are a lot like photography, kept it simple! Too much going on in the card and it looks unprofessional IMHO.

Like Brad said: " Clean, legible, easy on the eyes is a must with a business card."

I really like this idea. It is alot easier to read then your original one. Plus you can have the picture without all the clutter over it. I might steal this idea next time we make cards. :)

Steal away! I don't blame you - it's a great layout!
