| Hello all, I know this is Dpc . . . anyways, I may take a photog class in school, but I'd need to shoot in film. I'd want a (very) inexpensive EF compatible(sp?) canon body. It's probably going to be one of the rebels, I've been looking around. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with these bodys, I'm sure some of you do. |

| I had the Rebel II for about 12 years. Loved it. No built in flash on that model, though. It was still working perfectly when I made the upgrade to digital. |

| I've had the EOS Elan for about 15 years or so. When I stepped up to a Dslr (20D), I found the functions very similar so I felt almost right at home with the 20D. I suppose you could feel the same stepping back to film. It's a great camera, and you can probably pick one up really cheap. I'm hanging on to mine for nostalgia though, sorry. There's newer versions too. Happy shopping! |

Check KEH.com for Canon AF camera bodies, they're a huge used equipment retailer and have a big selection.
You could get a 10S, which is going to be pretty similar to your 30D. I have a 1N, which is a hell of a bargain for a weather sealed 1-series body. |

I'm trying to get rid of my Canon Elan IIe pretty cheap. PM me if you're interested. I used it for a year at my university course and was really pleased with it. It mounts the whole EF lens range (not EF-S, of course)and it's got the cool eye-controlled focus.
Now I've transitioned to an ancient Canon A-1. Don't ask why, I'm not so sure myself - it's some sort of romantic/nostalgic attraction to its being so old, and the manual film advance, and all that. Of course having it means I now have a set of FD lenses as well, which are wholly useless on any other camera. Oh well, it's fun...

After my AE-1 was stolen, I bought a elan7e. It's pretty good and a step above the rebels. If you want to put in a little extra money, check out the canon3.
Of course, if you want to go medium format, I picked up one of these Ciro-flex from ebay for about $25. It's pretty fun to play with and an easy break into medium format without breaking the bank. |

I shoot with A Rebel T2, its fine for anything but if you can afford the Elan 7e it has the eye controlled focus points. For the most part the 1/4000 max shutter speed the 3 fps continous drive. The Rebel T2 is fine.
I also shoot with a 1991 EOS Elan that specs the same as the new Rebel T2. Even the old elan can use USM lenses (it came new with one) and new L Glass has no problems depspite being 35mm. |

I also needed a camera for a class .. I got the original Rebel (1990 version?) for $27.00 on e-bay .... works great.
Huge viewfinder compared to digital SLR's - only one focus point, though.

Canon Elan II body could be had for cheap (3 focus points). Even an Elan 7 body would probably not cost too much (9 focus points?).

Haha, thanks for the responses. Doesn't seem to be a consensus, but all suggestions sound fairly promising. Most likely the decision will come down to price. It is reassuring to hear that none of the Canon film bodies have been a disappointment. Again, thanks all. The Elan 7 or Rebel TS sound like the early leaders, if I want to spend the money.
To Odyssey, I'd be interested, but I don't need the camera until at the very earliest January (The photog class isn't offered first semester at my small college). If you've still got it then, I'll try to contact you.
And about the medium format: I believe I'd ened a standard 35mm SLR. |
