Just wondering, whats the point of posting to a "scores thread", and then omitting to post your score?

Mark, by the way, you just posted on this score thread and omitted your score too ;)

You can understand people not wanting to jinx their good score. But considering the number of dancing bananas, (and the shot itself if you can spot it), you can guess that noisemaker is in the 7.x territory, so close to ribbon territory :)

Ah, but I didn't put all the other gumpf as well..

But if it makes any difference...

I'll admit I was one of those who submitted a more candid "snapshot" kind of photo. It was my first submission though and I was a bit excited. =P It's doing surprisingly well, considering!

I realize a photographic portrait is generally thought to be composed rather than candid, but eh, live and learn. I just wanted to get my feet wet here!

Give it a couple of months and DPC will smack that good attitude right out of here. ;-)

Welcome to the party and keep entering.

Snapshots are not portraits. A lot of the entries have a candid snapshot feel to them. My guess is these are not scoring as well as expected.

*Whew* I thought it was just me. There were several that just seemed like vacation/backyard snaps that someone cropped more than usual.
Plus there were a few that I thought cute kid, but boring photo. (Plain/simple is not the same as boring, btw. I like plain.) And it's not the candid quality, either. There are several good candid shots.

I am happy to have set my bar not too high (lol - 4.6 territory) on my first entry. And happier still that the negatives are on my editing, not the photo itself. As this was "Advanced" I mistakenly did more than I should have - and from the comments, it cost me points. Now my goal is to rank higher than 300th, lol. Well, and to do a great still life...

It looks score-wise like this is where I'm settling in at.

Blah.

Frustration abounds!!
Usually I start off awful, it stays that course for most of the challenge, then nice upward movement at the end.

Not this time....I started out strong, kept it moving up, and in the last 24 hours I've gotten HAMMERED! Wazzz up?? I feel like I just threw my baby in the troll patch! :[

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS, I say!

I think people are being really picky. Not a whole lot you can do with a portrait I suppose. Lots of kids.

I'm also curious as to what others think of this: Do portraits of older people, maybe in black and white, get higher scores than those of cute little kids? I've seen a couple blue ribbons where there are older ladies and men...but very few kids with high scores.

in portraits what ive seen that win are older people because all of the aging lines in their faces give off more emotion, and hot girls because everybody likes hot girls...

Looks like no shot at a five on this one. I know it is a good shot but think it is getting marked down for not being human- no hot chick or weathered face side lit for detail. Comments are all good. I need a better shot for my next challenge. Still don't have anything for the presently open challenges yet.

Actually, looking at the last few portrait challenges, children portraits did very well as long as they were well photographed. This is the key...well photographed. If a portrait photo in a portrait challenges looks at all like a snapshot, it will suffer greatly in the voting, even if it is a 'cute kid'

B&W portrait II jaxed photo of an 11 yo girl finished 3rd.

Portrait in Landscape In this challenge, 3 of the top 10 were children, including scalvert awesome photo of his daughter.

It's okay, if everyone's score is dropping, the "trolls" are not hurting anything but the final scores... placement will remain the same. It seems we have all been afflicted by the weekend voters :) Hopefully, this too, shall pass.........
