The thumb nails don't go to a full size, but the images are amazing. At least to me.

Oh, yeah, this photog is also a registered user of DPC under the user name DeeRiot.

I'm still looking through his shots, so I haven't gotten to all of his site yet.

So right away I am wondering about the lighting in his images. Are most of his shots HDR or tone mapped? If not, then how does he achieve the great lighting throughout his images, especially his landscape shots?

Why don't you just ask him?

No, I couldn't. He is so much better than me. Just kidding. I plan to, but I thought that maybe he would see this thread since he has now joined this site and would respond here for all of us to see.

I'll give him time to respond here and if he doesn't, I'll PM him.

edited for those darn typos

O.K., I waited a whole ten minutes :)

PM sent, and I suggested that he could also answer in this thread.

after taking a look at his shots id say maybe he uses some HDR techniques but im going to assume alot of it is done with GND's and ND's combined with external lighting forthe portraits, and for landscapes mainly GND filter with maybe some HDR effects

I know dean personally. Graduated at the same time, and art school as him. He is a great photographer for sure. I actually did a shoot with Colin Finlay, for Adobe with Dean as well... Really a great guy, and happy usually to share what he knows. I do know that he is very much into the HDR world. Actually I got the software advice for HDR from him, though I have yet to really use it. He uses PhotoMatix Pro. Im pretty sure he has a lot going on right now though, so I dont know that youll hear much from him

First off , thanks a lot for all the kind words folks! Adam, good to see you here my man:)
As for my shots, some of the landscapes are indeed HDRs, to be exact 10 pics in personal gallery. I do not own GND nor polarizer, wouldn't mind trying if I had one:) Actually, i got a polarizer stolen with my waterproof backpack couple years ago, and never got a new one:(
Some of the conceptual ones were shot with strobes, some with available light (i.e. first two) Bottom line is, I try to see the light, even if it's not quite there. Thanks again,
Dean

Oh man, I'm diggin' alot of the stuff in your personal 'folio, Dean, the coastal forest stuff in particular. I'm up near Alaska for work right now and its raining like piss, so misty rivers, old growth forest, and little waterfalls is all I've been shooting for the past week or so...

Great stuff!

I'm glad to see that some photos are in color, like the sailboats.

I always say "A rainbow always looks better in CoLor, it's more Colorific".

BUMP,

Keeping bumping this one, please don't get me wrong, but the photos are really inspiring here, and we know him from The SHOT, VH1 series. So, it's for your good to just check out his The SHOT collection ;) I definitely inspired by him, not only the photos he took, but what he has achieved since 1994... I am going to do the same, not as good as he has done, but I will try my best.

Check out his full portfolio ;)

Thanks everybody for the attention. I am certainly keeping in mind some kind of a shoot/get-together/workshop in Seattle area this summer, let's try to make it happen,
Cheers

hey thanks a bunch Leo, really nice of you:-) In 1994 I was still back home in Bosnia, I enrolled in Art Institute Seattle in summer 2004, and that's when it all started...it still is a learning process, and it feels as it will never stop,
