i have a problem with dust that the automatic cleaning won't remove it ,i even can see a very small ( seems like fabric) line in the viewfinder, its really annoying i always change lenses indoors in clean places i don't know how it happened..anyway is there a safe way to clean it by myself ?

Their are kits, or send it to canon. There was a test that shows that Canon and Pentax's systems are nearly usless even after 25 passes lol.

Google "Rocket Blower". That will clean your sensor without touching your sensor. Works great.

If you see it in the viewfinder it isn't sensor dust. You probably got something on the mirror or in the viewfinder itself. Your automatic cleaning system doesn't clean viewfinders. Get a rocketblower or a infant nasal pasage sucker.

If you can see it in the viewfinder, the dust is almost certainly not on your sensor. The auto cleaning (I believe) only works for dust on the sensor itself, not on the mirror, which is what you are probably seeing. Like Cindi said, a bulb blower is probably the best solution. There are also brushes you can buy for cleaning out the interior of your cam too. As long as you're careful, there's nothing to worry about.

If you can see it in your viewfinder, the dust is not on your sensor. It is probably in the viewfinder itself. Although annoying, this wont effect your images. As all internal parts of you camera are very delicate, I would just leave it alone.

Yup yup i missed the whole in viewfinder thing, their all right. Eeven so the sensor dust cleaner is only effective to its extent, on that subject whats stuck is stuck.

But yeah viewfinder = not sensor dust...

If its really in the viewfinder or even on the mirror it wont affect your images.

Yes, forget the auto dust removal on the 400D. I had heaps of dust, and it did nothing. I used a blower (actually a pump from a cheap airbed - it's new, so it's clean), and that worked really well for all the minor stuff, and all but one spot of the big stuff. Eventually, the big spots will accumulate, and I'll probably get a brush or a wet-clean system to have a go at that.

But as everyone said, if you see it in the viewfinder, it's not on the sensor. Check the mirror and the lens.

Did anyone mention that if you see it in the view finder then it's NOT sensor dust?
