So we had an outdoor wedding today, on LUCKY 7/7/07. It's bound to be good, right?

Well... the day started out extremely hot (100 degrees here in Utah). The wedding was to begin at 6:00. And around 3:00 some clouds came and went. Darn, I was hoping they would stick around and cool the place down.

Well... around 5:30 the clouds were back. But they were VICIOUS this time. The winds kicked up. The veils and table clothes were blowing frantically in the wind. People were running around trying to grab stuff that was flying and pin it down. A large 3 foot glass vase toppled over and broke.

And THEN it started raining. No, I mean pouring.

By six o'clock, the weather had slowed down enough that we went forward with the wedding. Still a little on the stormy side, but good enough that the wedding party could march down the isle.

By SEVEN O'CLOCK ... it was gone. The clouds disappeared. The sun came out. The wind was gone. The temperature were cool enough that it actually felt quite pleasant.

The moral of the story?!?

Next time, get married at 7:00 on 7-7-07!!!

-----------------

Okay, share your wedding stories. And if you have pics already, post 'em up. (my won't be ready for a long time yet)

LOL.... good story....

Oh, I forgot to mention. It hasn't rained here in Utah in weeks. So that "freak storm" on lucky 7-7-07 simply came out of nowhere and occurred at just the wrong time to mess with the wedding.

But the bride and groom were WONDERFUL. Unlike some brides who go off the deep end getting all stressed out on their day. This bride had an absolutely wonderful attitude the entire time. When it was hot. When it was raining. When she got thrown into the swimming pool with her beautiful white dress on! LOL Even the groom, who was also thrown in the pool (with his cell phone still in his pocket) was in good spirits the entire day.

A stormy beginning equals a long and happy life, right? :-)

Reminds me of my friend's wedding, but it rained on and off all day beforehand and then wasn't raining for the 20 minutes at the original time. So the ceremony was on time, and we dashed inside immediately afterward.

For our wedding, which was July 3, 1993 (14 years!), it was extremely hot all day, then a thunderstorm hit during the ceremony. We were inside, so we were fine. But I didn't even notice a thunderclap during my vows until we watched the video. Guess my mind was on other things. ;)

As for 7/7/7, it was my Dad's 70th birthday and the last day of our celebratory cruise. It's a new ship, too: this was its 7th voyage!

I'd say with friends like that, the happy couple can cope with anything.
That marriage should last a loong, long time.

I give up. I tried to narrow down the images to display and every time I removed one I added another. So here they are. Just "some" of the pictures that I took yesterday (7/7/07):

6 O'Clock - Stormy Weather Ceremony
I don't know if you can see the rain at this size, but it's raining on the wedding party as they come marching in.

By 7 O'Clock the weather was beautiful!

And HEY ... if your flash doesn't go off... make the photo good anyway by turning it into a beautiful silhouette! ;-)

Now, realize this is only a fraction of the photos. I managed to take over 1600 pictures. And there were THREE of us taking pictures. This was my first time as a "second shooter" in a long time, and I gotta say, I had a blast! If you ever get a chance to play "second shooter" do it!

Edit to add: If this is your first time into this thread, and you went straight for the pictures, go back and read the story at the top. It helps the pictures make sense. :-)

P.S.
And again ... if anyone else has 7-7-7 stories to tell, please feel free to share!

A couple of additional notes:

1) The bridals were mostly natural lighting.
2) None of these photos are edited. They are all straight out of Adobe Lightroom with varying degrees of "tweakage" (most with very little, but the sunset pictures required a little bit of work).
3) Also, most of these were shot with the new Canon 1D Mark III

hey dave,

you've probably answered this question a hundred times in this forum but what lighting do you use for the portraits in the first row of photos?

Thanks,
Dan

Hehe... uh, see #1 in the message just above your question. ;-)

These were shot inside her house. There was a large window in the living room. You can see her standing next to the window in one of the shots.

... I had the mother of all migraines. Eventually had to get a shot or two from the doc and thus still know nothing about 07 07 07... ;-)

My brothers wedding was on Saturday.

The lucky part - it's been raining constantly in the UK for 3 or 4 weeks now. Saturday was dry. A little windy for the ceremony, but with a bit of sunshine to brighten things up.

The unlucky part - my young neices were bridesmaids. One threw up in the car on the way to the church, and then again in the church (covering my sister too this time). The other one started throwing up at the evening do.

Despite being an usher I managed to shoot almost 1000 shots during the day and a couple of hundred at night (using 2 bodys). About 300 "keepers" have been processed ready for printing (Bibble rocks) and I'm going to go back through and pick out the best for some closer attention.

EWWWWW..... lol (I can laugh cuz I wasn't in the car, but if I was ... I would certainly have joined them!)

Congrats! Any chance of sneaking a peak at the photos?

Two women friends of mine had a commitment ceremony on 7-7-7. They went with a rainbow theme. It was very hot and humid but it turned out very nice. Here are a few pics.

Great photos David! I guess that wasn't your typical "Utah" wedding, was it?

Fine, went to the hardware store while wife was editing wedding pics. A worker there dropped 4 pieces of galvanized steel posts on my toe.

Cut to the bone, broke my toe.

Wife came and brought me to the hospital where we got to spend 6 lovely hours waiting to get 3 stitches.

It was sooooooo much fun.

Lucky day indeed!

Looks great Paul. Interesting thing ... I've never been to england or anywhere in europe, and as I opened up your site to look at the pictures, my immediate impression was "wow, this looks like some kind of 'posh' england style wedding". Very expensive. Very formal. And then I noticed your domain name at the bottom of one of your images with the .uk on the end. Your profile doesn't give any indication where you're at (other than the blue planet), so I'm just curious... where abouts were these taken? And... did they have the ceremony next to a cemetery?

Could be! I think the worker probably owes you a good lens or two to compensate for the pain and suffering (not to mention, long term mental anguish).
