I want a lensbaby!
I found an inexpensive one on AMAZON.
Anyone bought one from there? Is this the right one that will fit with my camera? (Rebel XTi).

THANKS my smart DPC friends! :)

That'll fit and Adorama is a good store.

There are now three different lensbaby models. That's the original (oldest) version.

The newest ones have ways to lock the effect (the bend in the lens) in place. I think that's much better.

Though that's just an inexperienced opinion: I never owned one, mainly because I think it would be easier to do that in postprocessing than to manipulate the lensbaby at capture time. (You can't use it in challenges postprocessing wise though).

Adorama is certainly a reputable store.

I prefer the old style bend-and-shoot. It's so much fun being able to mess around with your shot on the fly. People who bring up the old "post-processing is easier" nonsense are completely missing the point :P

Seriously though, I find it much easier, faster and a lot more fun to be creative with a camera & lens than with any post-processing tool ... some of us are odd like that : )

No worries about ordering through amazon. They are a bit overzealous about giving money back to the customer if the customer is not satisfied. Great for the customer, not so great for the seller :-)

Call me old fashion, but $90 for a piece of plastic? What's the point? There are better things to spend your money on.

Looks/sounds gimicy.

Could say the same thing about your 50mm f1.8...

That's the same price the original one is being offered for at the Lensbaby store so it's not really a bargain but Adorama gets fine ratings so it doesn't really make much difference. I think the shipping through Amazon is free as opposed to the $5 from Lensbaby. Lensbaby offers a 30 day guarantee, though...does Adorama? Dunno.

I absolutely thought that Lensbaby was a dumb gimmicky waste of money for years, until I saw this gallery. Then I started seeing other stuff that I really liked and finally I had to get one for myself. I haven't used it as much as I'd like yet but I love it already. It's definitely not for everyone, though.

Blasphemy!!! At least the 50mm has glass in it. There is some quality involved. Is there glass in the lensbaby or is it just a plastic tub?

I could build the same thing with a hoya lens and an empty toiletpaper roll. (Okay, maybe not with the toiletpaper roll, but you get my drift.)

Edit: Okay, Mk has a point. Maybe it's not too gimicky. I guess I'm using the mentality of "Ugh! Don't understand it...kill it."

Op·ti·mism [op-tuh-miz-uhm] –noun

1. a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.
2. the belief that good ultimately predominates over evil in the world.
3. the belief that goodness pervades reality.
4. the doctrine that the existing world is the best of all possible worlds.

A good word to learn for the day.

The lensbaby has glass too, not that it's important here.

The quality in the lensbaby is in its lack of quality.

There's really quite a bit of good engineering in the lensbaby. You may not care for the effect it provides, but that's just your opinion.

I can guarantee that the lensbaby is far more durable and reliable than the 50mm f1.8 ever will be.

I got mine from Amazon. Check out my entry for the last "Candid" challenge :-)

P.S. One of the cool bits about the Lensbaby is that it's a type tilt shift, especially at an extreme bend. That's NOT easily duplicated in post processing.

Personally, I'd love to have one for creative portraits in the studio. Might be cool for some wedding shoots too (not the action shots). Just haven't gotten around to buying one yet.

Anyway, it's the least expensive tilt-shift lens you can buy for a dSLR. The coolness factor alone is worth the price. I'm thinkinin' it might really impress the chicks that model for me :-)

That's TOO funny! His Lensbaby was so "reliable" he just couldn't resist selling it. :P I wonder, did he keep his 50mm? He-he.

I'll have to check if you can rent them. I might take one for a test spin before spending $90 on one.

I sold it because I want to buy the 3G.
