I think you need to workout more. You look really out of shape. :-P

I really like this...the lighting is very well done and the pose is very becoming, it gives you nice lines and definition.

You need breast implants :-D

Nice lighting though.

[quote=Geocide] Hey, what do you guys this of this one?

I don't see that much difference between the two versions. Good definition of the torso muscles. Play around with the light some more, I think you're on the right path. I would jokingly say "Eat a sandwich", but the last person in here to say that was burned at the stake. BTW congrats on keeping in great shape. I'd estimate 99th percentile for body fat.

Thanks guys for the comments. I'm off to get a burger ;)

Fries and a milkshake while you're at it!

I think the noise ninjaed one sucks, it just looks like you added blur to it. I really like the original though, very cool.

I agree.. No to the NN.

I like the one without the NN better.

I think the shot is well done, the pose is great and the lighting accentuates your musculature. My one nitpick is the armpit: I think that the shot would be improved even more if the armpit area was darker.

excellent pic.

If you want to use noise ninja, make sure it is early in the workflow. ie one of the very first things.

I've noticed a distinct difference also in another 'pixel level' edit though - USM.

I have two methods of sharpening:
1 - Radiant Vista sharpening.
Step 1 - build two layers, #1 to lighten mode, #2 to darken mode, add third layer in normal mode for blur (OR overstrong Noise Ninja) all layers are duplicated from the original and are NOT adjustment layers.
Step 2 - Opacity to 50% on each, opacity 0 on level 3, add a layer mask of RGB 128, 128, 128 - aka 50% grey.
Step 3 - Add overstrong sharpening as desired to each of the first two layers. I prefer going a bit stronger on the darken layer myself.

tweak opacity and layer masks to fine tune your sharpening as to where you want it and how much.

the other method uses NeatImage, noise ninja can be used as well.

Step 1 - Build two layers. #1 Sharpening Base #2 NI Base. (NN Base in your case :)
Step 2 - Set sharpening base to Opacity 40%. Add moderately overstrong sharpening as desired.
Step 3 - on layer NI Base, go and apply fairly strong noise reduction.
Set opacity to 60% (Lately I've been considering switching this for a layer mask at 40% grey, RGB values around 102,102,102)
Step 4 - Duplicate NI Base layer. Add strong sharpening. Set layer opacity to around 60%. Use layer masks to tweak each layer.

this seems to give a nice combination of effects.

I leave these layers in place until final adjustments are done.

I find that by doing sharpening first, I get much cleaner results.

Method one I usually use for lower noise images and images that I am editing individually, although a bit of noise is OK thanks to that layer of NN or gaussian blur in a pinch. Not legal in basic, but with excellent control nonetheless.

Method two interestingly is legal in basic. And it works great as part of a batch process. Tweak the opacities for the noise when using batches. Need to have full version of NI but I'm not sure about NN. It can also be used with layer masks with a hands-on approach.

If you don't have much noise, try boosting the Sharpening base to opacity 60 or 70%, pull the NI Base layer down to 10-40%, boost the NI sharpened layer to 75% and mode to darken (not legal in basic).

See how you like that!

Sweet jesus. thanks for the info! :D

Not legal in basic. Basic editing can only use adjustment layers, not layers with pixels on them.

I thought using NN was legal in basic. It's actually mentioned specifically in the rules.

You may:
use filters or stand-alone utilities designed to preserve image integrity (such as Neat Image, Unsharp Mask, Dust & Scratches, and color correction tools). These filters must be applied uniformly to the entire image, and must not be used in such a way that their use becomes a feature. No “effects” filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur.

I like the photos a lot... the lighting is really good and the pose kicks BUTT!!

I would like to see all of your right arm though.

That is my only nit-pick :)

Nah,I'm sure anyone that's done self ports know what it's like to loose objectivity because they are the subject.

I see way more flaws in me than others will ever see. So i wanted to see what the community thought.

I don't have any ribbons, suggesting that my photographic eye hasn't quite developed fully yet.

? David. This is the Individual Photograph Discussion. This is the place where DPC'ers discuss photographs. What are you trying to say?

Do you mean he is trolling or trawling?

Oh, perhaps you mean that he is trawling as in fishing for compliments... Oh I understand now.

Uhm. I still think this is the right place for that. This forum is here so people can learn and find out if their picture is good or not. If they happen to be in the picture, that's fair game too.

Shanksware - layers are allowed, but can only be used in normal mode and masks cannot be used in basic.

Changes cannot be made to pixels within the image either in a layer OR in a mask.

Pixel bearing layers must be allowed. No reason why they wouldn't.

Here's a shot that should match some of the feedback from here and fredmiranda.
It seems less expressive to me though... bah.

I agree, the face holds less interest and feeling here than in the first one. Have you tried just a little burn on the first one?

Don't get discouraged, SP's can be tough.
