I dropped my sony a100 in a river today, it was on a tripod but not stable and it was on and fell in the river. I grabbed it RIGHT when it fell in the water and took it completely apart and attempted to dry it as much as a could but it won't turn on, is there any hope? What should I do? What should a person do if they drop a camera in the water? I think I shook it too hard in a panic which might ahve broken something I don;t know, i don't here any sounds when i shake it so nothing has come look....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

take the battery out! put it in a small space with those things that suck moisture and let it dry for a long time (maybe days) then try it.

If it doesn't work after it's been dried properly, you get professional help.

take the battery OUT
leave it OUT

do not attempt to turn it on until its totally dry inside ...

and do what Elvis told you to do

a hair dryer isn't really gonna get inside very well. it is important to leave it off for a long time. I know you want to test it to see if it is ok but if there is moisture on the inside you could fry it. Patience is essential here. Leave the battery and cards out and let it dry.
edit to add: I have read some that say you should immediately wash it with bottled water to remove lake junk from it, yes it is more water but it is helping to clean it...I've never done it (knock on wood) so I don't know for sure. Also I have heard of people putting their oven at the very lowest setting possible and putting the camera in there, probably with the door open to let the heat dry it out.

alright...haha

i am wondering, right now i have the lense off but i am worried about scratching my mirror...granted that is the least of my worries considering a 1000 dollar camera is at steak but should i just keep it open and deal with the dust later?

maybe a grocery store but walmart should have a product that does it. it is the same stuff that is in the packets that come in shoes labeled "do not eat"

Why do I get the feeling that you've dropped a camera in the river before, Elvis? ;)

True, but even a couple and putting it in a zip lock will start things until she can get to a hardware store to see if they have any she can get

Just ask someone if you can steal them out of the open shoe boxes on display ;)

at most grocery stores they have that spill control powder on most of the posts that absorbs moisture from anything spilled. I wonder if you could talk to someone and see if you can get a small amount of it...unless they sell it of course. I would think this added to a zip top bag along with your camera would help pull the moisture out.

explain to the shoe manager and see if they'll give you any that might be around... also go to the hardware department and see if they have any desiccant
